Is it my imagination or are people changing their opinions on var.In the last 2 weeks their has been some right clangers dropped and dont give me that crap that its the rule thats wrong. Most of the pundits are frightened to death to pull it down but their are still some who have got the ba**s to say they have changed their minds. There has always been mistakes always will be even with var and as we know nothing is perfect but the main thing is the passion, elation and enjoyment of the fans.
But, it is the rules that is causing the issues in the early part of this season. If they hadn't come up with this dodgy new handball rule, VAR would have still been used, but allowed two "legal" goals. Don't get me wrong, I don't like VAR the way it is set up and used at the minute, but it isn't the reasonMan City with Spurs, for example...
VAR will ruin the game. Football just is not made for it. DRS in cricket is fine, it's not intrusive and to a certain extent adds to the drama. In football they should allow each team captain 1 or 2 (at the most) reviews of any decision with any doubt going along with the on-field decision of the referee. Football is played by humans and refereed by humans; who are of course inherently fallible, and since we are a long way off all-seeing, hovering, decision making robot refs (FFS!) then they should leave the f**king game alone! EOR.
Personally i'd rather decisions were correct and officiating and rulemaking were as close to common sense as you could get. Even without VAR this isn't the case. Players fall over and its now constituted as a foul. Well that's just cheating. Tackling rarely happens now as any slight touch and players roll on the turf. And our players do it too, it's not just a particular team or two anymore. So if you add technology in to the mix with poor rules and inaccurate interpretation of an action, you'll still have a poor outcome. For me, I'd limit technology to line calls (all lines), review of goals and confirming penalty decisions that have been given. They are general breaks in play and often quite lengthy, while ball tracking technology will allow very swift line calls.
Even the officials don’t understand it or it’s being used incorrectly? Man Utd were attacking last night, player through on goal but a little wide, flag went up for offside. Ref stops play and awards a free kick to wolves the defending team. Surely the way was to let play continue, if a goal occurs then check. As it was an incorrect decision was made. VAR can kiss my arse
Unfair scrutiny of referees using 42 different camera angles gives rise to VAR. If we could agree a pact to stop unfairly criticising referees then we could forget about VAR. Just accept the referee's decision is final and stop with the crazy conspiracy theories about them being biased against our own particular club - whoever we support.
To accept the ref’s decision is final wouldn’t allow for the fairly criticising of referees. Only recently has the referee’s decisions not fully been final (Goal- line technology and VAR) Referees should be scrutinised, not for genuine mistakes of course or things they couldn’t possibly have seen. However, many are inconsistent not only with their decisions but how they treat offenders.
They are paid peanuts compared to the prima donnas they referee, and football fans are frequently incapable of shedding the bias they feel towards their own club. As with criminal law, not two offences are alike, so the best you can hope for is consistency of approach - which does not amount to consistency of outcome.
Mark me in years to come they’ll be no ref or lino to criticise, it’ll be a panel sitting in a studio sounding a virtual whistle. With so many millions if pounds at stake for the sake of a wrong decision this will be the way it will go.
Var should not be used by independent moderators during the game. It should be used a maximum of twice by either manager if he wants a decision looked at by var operatives. So, for example, the referee runs the game as normal ( no var) but at some point a goal (let's say) is scored by one team and one of the managers decides to use his var option. Only then does the var reviewer ( not the ref) decide whether the goal is valid. Whatever the outcome the manager has one var shout left ( so has to use it expeditiously). Ultimately, the ref just refs the game as normal unless he is told to stop for an external judgement.
I disagree with you up until the last sentence. The problem with linesmen not flagging for offside is that quite often it might lead to a corner. VAR is then not used to check back for offside. VAR is an abomination because of the effect it has on the explosive celebration of goals in a stadium.
So what do we do, have some wrong decisions, some right or get everything right? There must be a clear demarcation. The play last night was stopped incorrectly with a goal a very real potential outcome. VAR should be used when the ball goes dead, the ref doesn’t need to stop the game until it does. VAR can be checking as play progresses
VAR could be of benefit and have a positive impact on the game however the rules and those implementing it will ensure that it ruins what is left of any enjoyment in the game. Most fans will grow to despise it, if they don't already, but those running the game will carry on introducing ridiculous rule after ridiculous rule and completely ignore the people that matter the most.
Their performance should be analysed like mine is at work. They are not paid peanuts nowadays either. Consistency of approach is to treat both sides the same, they often don’t as was the case on Saturday. Keep blaming bias for poor and inconsistent refereeing and it’ll get even worse than it already is. No matter how you try you cannot and must not excuse and defend unfair, inconsistent refereeing. Like play acting with players it needs to be stamped out.
