Sibbick clearly has huge potential. Very skillful and a great athlete. But he's very raw, and we can't get away with that every week at this level. In my opinion he needs using carefully, and to be dipped in and out of the side. If he goes on a run of bad form but can't be dropped as we have no fit replacements, it could do damage to his confidence which would be very hard to repair, especially if the fans start getting on his back.
I thought he did ok from the third minute on. At least he made himself available to receive the ball when the keeper kept rolling it to Diaby and I thought his distribution was fairly good. With the misplaced pass and soppy recovering challenge for the first goal, admittedly he didn't cover himself in glory.
It’s got to be a tactic for Sibbick to be playing in an inside right midfield position when we have the ball? Was the same against Fulham. He doesn’t overlap as often as a full back should, drifts in, and gets caught out. I can’t imagine Stendel standing for it unless it’s deliberate? Don’t think he was great today at all, but a lot of it was down to positioning which can be taught and educated. Mainly worry for me is that positioning has been wrong for two games on the spin - we just didn’t get punished last Saturday and I don’t think it’s his fault as much as others do
Neither Jordan Williams or Pinillos are fully fit as far as I’m aware & Oduor has only just joined so it’s pretty much a debate of Sibbick v B Williams with Cavare playing either side depending on who you pick. Sibbick for me was more impressive against Fulham than anything I’ve seen from Ben Williams in league one so I can’t fault Stendel for picking Sibbick today. Once everyone’s fit the positions really are up for grabs
Sibbick wasn't first choice at Wimbledon, so to see him start the season for us in the Championship I found a bit odd. I thought we'd signed him for the development squad. But he had a good game against Fulham. Yesterday not so much. But his performance wasn't anywhere near as bad as the tactics of playing a young inexperienced full back in his first match away from home in the championship and not asking anyone to track back and help him out. Even when it became obvious the opposition were targeting him because we'd left him so exposed we didn't change a thing. Impossible to judge a player when he's given an impossible task by his manager.
He wasn't great, but that first goal will have knocked his confidence no end. Awful pass from McGeehan.
He certainly looked exposed yesterday, but Thomas in front of him was poor too and provided very little defensive support for him.
Neither William's or pinnilos are fit and the lad from leeds only signed a few days ago stendel didnt have much choice he even had to move cavare out of position to accommodate sibbock. Thomas did little to help sibbock out though.
I know, it's bizarre isn't it. That we've gone into a season in the championship with a squad that clearly isn't fit for purpose.
Watched it on television and thought, what’s the point of tipey toeing it at the back when we were 2.0 down.Frightned me to death the way they were messing about in the penalty area.Hoof the ball up the field.I know we are trying to get away from the long ball, but we were just pi####g about with it.Also thought our passing and movement could be much quicker.
They looked fit for purpose against fulham but too many players were poor yesterday and wednesday looked good. I rate Pinnilos if he had been fit I'm sure he would have started.
I rate Pinnillos as a footballer, but he's way too slow for this league. Just like last time, right wingers are going to have him on toast.
McGeehan’s problem was that he dropped a clanger to give away a goal in the first couple of minutes and then spent the rest of the game running around like a maniac trying to make up for it. Lucky he didn’t get a straight red rather than just a yellow
I thought the same. Assumed he was playing full back, but everytime I looked he seemed to be in the middle of the park. This just played into wednesday's hand as they just played hoofball into the channel where their winger had acres of space. Like you I think it must have been deliberate as it was so obvious I can't believe he wouldn't have been told to get back by the staff. The only bright thing for me yesterday was that we weren't 'out played' with masterful midfield creativity, it was just long balls hoofed up the pitch. Surely that is something that ought to be easy to sort out at this level. Another area of concern is the amount of free headers we give the opposition from set pieces. Luckily we haven't been punished so far, but it's only a matter of time if we don't sort it out. Again it ought to be something that's not too difficult to sort out.
Jogged back once or twice against Fulham too, although he did have a good game attacking wise last week.
He isn't the fastest but from what I saw of sibbock yesterday his reading of the game and positioning is better. Sibbock got caught a few times watching the ball not the runner (harris)
