I can only think this is a falling out over wages. A few players have had contract extensions, and Cauley got an automatic upgrade as a result of promotion. Maybe Keef wanted an increase to match and the club refused so he spat his dummy out. Never believed this “injury” nonsense. I can understand why he would want to go, but players come and go, and I don’t give a monkeys now other than the fee is too low. I trust the recruitment team to identify replacements and they have done brilliantly so far. Hope we can get players over the line before the window shuts otherwise we are very light indeed.
The clocks ticking just 3 days before deadline now it will be interesting what type of striker replacement we go for personally i hope it’s a more pacey mobile type.
Didn’t play much to the end of last season for obvious reasons, and has had little pre-season training. Add to that, that he’s still to fully get into his game since the injury, I think it’s good value for him regardless of the exact amount. He’s not proven in Champ either.
Makes me laugh them making out we were reluctant when we know the board have no desire to create legends. Also worrying that playing for a going nowhere Rugby town is seen as a better option than us.
I have a feeling that his heart wasn't really in it regarding staying with us DT. Certain players gain a reputation for being a "journeyman" footballer. I believe Wigan will be his tenth Club since he started playing at a non league and EFL level some seven years ago. Five of his moves have involved established EFL Clubs, so apart from when he was on loan at Rotherham he's bound to have recieved a few bob in signing on fees, which between his agent and himself might hold a certain attraction. A mate of mine played for around five different League Clubs and when he was at York City, he got talking to the Players PFA representative. He openly admitted that at the twelve or so Clubs he'd played at, he deliberately went out of his way to cause " unrest" between the squad and management, in the hope he would be moved on. When that happened and he signed elsewhere he recieved a fee, which for him, meant he was Mortgage free and had a very nice BMW. I'm not suggesting for one minute that Kieffer falls into that category of course, but it is interesting to note, that at the age of twenty seven, he's had ten different Clubs and at eight of those he's spent a solitary season there ( played for Ipswich January to July 2017 and loaned to Rotherham July 2017 to January 2018 before coming to us.) His longest spell has been two years between 2013-15 when he joined newly promoted Yeovil Town. It will be very interesting to see how long he stays with Wigan Athletic.
Signed because he could see where Wigan were heading and Cook's attitude was infectious. Why what's up with Barnsley and Stendel Kieffer? Thanks for your efforts si thi.
Surely that's a load of ***** he nearly joined bristol earlier in the window I'm sure if he had he would of been giving it I could see where bristol are going cant wait to work with Lee Johnson ect. I could understand if he went bristol but he has joined the 2nd biggest club in wigan.
There is something puzzling about this one for me. Choose any of the following opinions: 1. The management (and maybe Kieffer's agent) think he will struggle at Championship level this season, so we can replace him with a player who the management think more likely to be able to step up; 2. He won't fit into the 4-5-1, or 4-3-3 style which Daniel wants to adopt this season and is not the style of player who could come in to replace Woodrow like-for-like; 3. His stock in trade may have been affected by his injury last season, so that getting a good long deal now might be better than struggling to regain his full confidence over the coming season, at the end of which his value might be considerably less, to the detriment of Kieffer, his agent and BFC; 4. The offer from Wigan was too good to turn down and releases the funds to bring in the style of player which Daniel has already identified (Suliejmani? Kone?). Whichever way you look at it, I think this is a good deal for BFC and I am not belittling the value Kieffer was to us last season and his courage in coming back from such a serious injury. I look forward to our bringing in a replacement and will think the club have done even better in terms of planning if the player has already been lined up before the Kieffer deal went through today. Moore out - Valmir Suliejmani in????? Maybe, or similar. I wait with baited breath for the next move. Many thanks, Kieffer, for a great season in 2018-19 and all the best with Wigan, except when playing us.
Good read pal. I think you might have a point. He’s with Elite Management Agency - maybe his remit with them is to make as much coin as possible now that he possibly accepts he ain’t PL quality. If that is the case, then fair enough I guess. He’s clearly left for Wigan for money - wages and signing on fee. We can’t match the wages they offer - despite them not really being able to either. Jonny Parkin’s book gave some insight too if you’ve had a read?
I'd go after the big lad from Blackpool. He's a proper nuisance and scores goals. 27 but targetmen mature with experience and time. Would cost 1.5 max. Can add a midfielder and left back with rest of the cash.
