British public should not have been given the choice, too complicated issue for almost anyone to fully understand the full complexities of staying or going. Ultimately this is what we elect our MPs for.
Some questions the Remainers can't/wont answer. If another referendum was held and Remainers 'won' what margin would you find acceptable 60/40 or 70/30 or would 51/49 be o.k. If another referendum was held and Leavers 'won' would you accept that result - if yes, why not accept the result of 2016. Is your problem that basically you're a bad loser?
Are you scared of another referendum because with all the information that has come to light over the last 3 years you would expect remain to win?
Let's implement the result of the referendum first then, and if it turns into a train crash use democracy to vote again
No, I think it’s been answered many, many times. Now that we know the likely outcomes of leave/remain and (roughly) the make-up of any deal with the EU - things we didn’t back in 2016 - there is nothing MORE democratic than a allowing the electorate a chance to confirm that was what they’d expected when they voted leave/remain first time round. As often cited, you wouldn’t buy a house without getting a survey done - with the obvious option of changing your mind if that survey suggested the house was a massive risk. If leaving is going to be as great as most leave-voters suggest, then why on earth have they got anything to worry about? It wouldn’t be that they’re concerned they’d lose a confirmatory vote would it? Surely not!? Whatever the result of a second vote, I’d absolutely respect it as final, as I hope would everyone else, given that it would have been based on actual facts, rather than fairy tales.
Seriously, can’t we just chalk fk it on these kind of threads now? You could cut and paste stock answers from previous similar threads. Seasons nearly on us Far more important
Not trying to be funny or ‘owt, but just don’t read ‘em! Seriously, there’s no obligation to open such threads. The diversity of topics on this BBS, and all its earlier incarnations, is one of its strengths.
TBH I agree about diversity being good and if it was all down to pure football it would be boring, but all political threads ultimately just end up with name calling and the usual Labour good, Tories bad stuff. Still you’re right I should just ignore them.
How do we facilitate those people confirming? How do we count the people’s vote that are no longer here? The people not capable of voting anymore? How do you make people prove they voted last time? In short you can’t have a confirm vote only a new one.
As I thought - you can't answer my questions but I'll answer yours - with all the information that has come to light I'd vote to leave and accept the result without whinging!
actual facts - fairy tales?? - let me quote Otto von Bismarck - 'People never lie so much as after a hunt, during a war or before an election.
If another referendum was held the margin for victory either way would be 51/49. And if Leave won again i'd accept that and hope we progress together as a nation towards getting the best deal we can possibly get, exactly that same as how i felt after the first referendum.
And Adolph Hitler said it doesn’t matter how big the lie if you keep repeating it people will believe it
Sorry, yes, my answer to your question. If we had an honest campaign with all the information learned over the past 3 years I would accept a simple majority. I would vote to remain so we would still have a voice in the EU and additionally to my mind that would mean not having to sign up to the euro in a few years time when it would be a requirement of rejoining the EU.
Much as I dont want Brexit I think this is the problem. Cameron placated the eurosceptics at the cost of the country. More than one question should gave been asked, it should have been clear it was advisory and a % should have been decided. But that didn't happen, a narrow margin for Brexit and this mess. So looking at the polls. Roughly 25% Brexit party ( leave).25% lib dems( remain) 25% Labour and 25% Tory could be either. So 50/50 Personally I think we'd be stronger in as we do get our own way ( we kept the pound after all) and I'm nervous of losing workers rights any further. And that's not even considering schools, NHS , transport etc.
