.. restaurant reviews i.e. with a generous pinch of salt. The class war is alive and well on here. Before I go on, this is NOT a defence of Johnson. For me the 'Jury is out' and actions will determine his credentials as PM. I unlike most on here am not going to 'second guess' what will transpire during his tenure. Personally having never met Boris Johnson and almost certainly never will. I do not know whether he, as some state on here, is an 'idiot' or 'thick'. Looking at his educational background I strongly suspect he is neither. It is irrelevant that his background and wealth enabled him to attend the best schools. He won various prizes at Oxford and won a scholarship, both highly unlikely if you have merely blagged your way into Oxford via a cheque book and pen. Here's the thing. Quite a few on here were defending Dianne Abbott (Labour) after countless demonstrations of ineptitude by arguing that here education attending Harrow Girls Grammar then (2nd lower degree Cambridge) proves she is highly intelligent. Now we have posters (some no doubt the same people) pilloring Johnson (who obtained a 2nd upper at Oxford) arguing he only got them due to his privileged upbringing. You can't have it both ways! I prefer to wait and see (OK I may be waiting a long time) if he does 'deliver'. I remember the optimism which I felt when Tony Blar was elected thinking, like many, it would be 'a breath of fresh air', and look how that turned out! Perhaps this might, just might, turn out to be the reverse and Johnson can work miracles and turn the fortunes of the country around for ALL levels of society.
Really? I prefer to make decisions based on evidence. A 50 odd year old bloke isn’t about to change his world view now that he’s PM. He’s a proven racist, mysoginist and liar. There are other ‘assumptions’ you could make but if we stick with what we absolutely ‘know’ there’s no way he will have any interest in ALL levels of society. That’d be like expecting a Corbyn to declare war on France over cheese tariffs.
Agreed. There’s so much prejudice and dogma on here it’s f**king ridiculous. Best not to read any of it.
What a pathetic negative reply! It is the perfect example of why many people consider a lot of people from Barnsley as 'living in the past' and highlights the 'cannot do' attitude dating back to the decline of heavy industry. There are many posters on here Barnsley born and bred who have achieved and continue to achieve despite successive Governments ignoring huge swathes of the country and being London centric.
Proven Racist.?? Where is your evidence? ... e.g. Great grandparents... one Jewish, One Muslim... describes himself as a "one man melting pot" Appointed several BAME to cabinet .
Piccaninnies with watermelon smiles. Muslim women look like letter boxes. I'm sure others can add to this list but I've got to get to work.
Living in the past because the Tories do their best to destroy our industry and our town, so in the process effectively destroying our future. Cheers lads.
He can describe himself as Ghandi if he wants. His language regarding people of colour and Muslim women is simply racist. Ignoring you heard it, or pretending he’s harmless is up to you, but that’s racism to most right thinking people. Editing to add. Pretending that people of varying ethnicity can’t possibly be racist is about the most racist thing I’ve seen on here.
Mr Johnson insisted it was "not in [his] heart" to make racist remarks and told a packed Cadogan Hall in Chelsea: "I do feel very sad that people have been so offended by these words and I'm sorry that I've caused this offence. But if you look at the article as written they really do not bear the construction that you're putting on them. "I feel very strongly that this is something which is simply not in my heart. I'm absolutely 100 per cent antiracist, I despise and loathe racism." He added: "I do think it's very sad that a debate about the future of London is being reduced to this. There's a real risk if we keep going on about this kind of thing that people will think we're trivialising the debate about the future of their city and people want to hear about housing and transport and crime. "They want to have a Mayor who speaks up for all Londoners and doesn't try to put people in boxes and divide and rule and endlessly go on about racism and race politics."
Much as I respect your views re Brexit in spite of having the opposite view, why did you feel the need to shoehorn it into this thread? It is I who used to get pillored for bringing it up !
And some of us have ‘achieved’ and still worry greatly about a Government up of liars, crooks and fascists.
