I prefer watching womens beach volley ball and womens mud wrestling. I am also a fully qualified and paid up card carrying member of the Dirty old men society
I really wanted to but the pace and standard made every match feel as though it was an Italian Division 3 game. I think it's great that it's opening up as a career route for girls now. If a woman is gifted at football then she should be able to make a living from it. I certainly shan't be actively looking to watch more though. I will probably give the next WC a watch to see how things have improved.
No unfortunately. I still think its over hyped, pace is too slow and ponderous , skills certainly improved a bit but most footballers could play better given the time they have on the ball in the women's game. I
I haven't watched one game. I have however listened to, and then watched as much as I can whilst working, the world cup cricket. I know a lot of you don't like the radio cricket commentary as it is done by middle/upper class twits but I love it. I work alone in my garage every day and the banter and chit chat from the radio is a godsend. It's far better than what I get from the wife ! I'm treating the cricket as a very welcome break from football, summer is for cricket. Once August comes I'll be totally back into footy with the reds.
I'm not sure either tbh, I'm sure they wont mind as I couldn't decide on gender by the name "Fired" so just made a calculated guess that there is probably more Male than female on here. It's good to see some of the games have attracted good crowds, but for me I just dont find womens football entertaining tbh, just as I dont find many sports regardless of sex entertaining
Could maybe use a neutral term rather than assume gender. As for sex in sport..... i'll just leave that there! ;-)
Offensively there's some excellent skill, defensively there's some poor play, particularly when playing it out from the back. The fitness isn't quite there yet either. There's a fundamental problem with the size of the goals for which I can't see a solution. Men are bigger than women, on average. Quite a bit bigger. A 6ft 5 male keeper is common place. A 6ft 5 woman is very unusual in any profession. The tallest woman I know, and I know her because of her height, because I specifically went to speak to her because of her height, is 6ft 4. I know no other woman anywhere near that. I know dozens of men taller. Many of the good female players would have no problem scoring against a professional make keeper of 6ft 5. So how the hell is a very tall woman of 5ft 11 going to keep it out? And if you make the goals smaller you're making it far more difficult to hit the target than it is in men's football. I don't know how that is ever going to be resolved.
No it's fine thanks, if I get a somebodies gender wrong based on me not knowing Male or female due to there username then so be it, I suppose it's hard to assume gender, apparently nobody knows exactly how many they are, somebody said over 70, me, I would say 2
Watched a few games in past - we had one at Oakwell on Mother's Day one year if anyone else remembers and also a game at Etihad during Euros. Game is slower but skill level is quite high - standard has improved,, players are fitter and stronger. Hopefully popularity will increase as a result of the World Cup
Thing is, when it comes to general debate, gender is absolutely irrelevant in an online anonymous forum unless the dialogue requires direct relevance of an experience of a particular gender or comparing viewpoints from different groups. But interesting (and always concerning) is how many examples there are of biases, assumptions and different behaviours. We all do it intentionally or otherwise. Just some more than others.
I watched England women v Norway women way back in around 2006 if thats the game youre refering too, think we won 1-0, only players i remember were Rachel Unitt and Faye White. Was £1 in i think.
No interest before. None now. The whole thing has passed me by. I can't watch it even if I wanted to. I thought this thread was asking whether opinions had changed about the owners following Pinnock's departure, hence why I am replying having read what it is actually about.
I'm surprised at some of these comments. The technical ability and organisation isn't that far from the men's game now. You can see the difference that being full time professionals has made. There's something missing though, I can't summon the same excitement and passion for some reason.
Thanks for all the replies. As a Barnsley LASS who has played from time to time, in between having kids etc, I wondered what people thought. Don’t get me wrong, I still prefer the pace of the men's game as a spectator sport. However, as someone who works in the industry of promoting sport to people, I did wonder if there might be a change in opinion. Just the amount if viewers suggests there might be. I think the game has moved forward tremendously. Players are so much fitter and more capable. The mistakes are there though and that is not lack of talent, just attention to detail. Goalkeeping improved hugely. But the dimensions are too big as people have said. FIFA / UEFA etc aren’t going to change the dimensions any time soon so that’s that. The impact on developing the game to girls is fantastic and everyone involved should be congratulated for that. Sadly, even at this level (and lower) , football is going to be dominated by money. It’s quite scary how it’s taking over.
