People were pushed into others due to the way in which the pens were opened etc... nobody made a conscious decision to trample others, they were trying to get out of a terrifying situation so to suggest they had any part whatsoever in this or should feel guilty is incredible. Im sure they do feel guilty, but that doesn't mean they ought to.
I apologise if my views have upset some posters. I didn't mean to offend. I honestly didn't think my opinion would vilify me so much. Very naive of me.
I don't believe you meant to cause offence but you have some very strange views about what caused the crush, it is as if the people involved consciously ploughed into others and should be held accountable. Totally incorrect and ignorant of the reality.
Maybe those in government who chose to insist that cages be built along the track and so prevent escape on to the pitch should be held to account.
I spoke to a Liverpool fan who worked for a North West Council that I used to visit, who was there on that awful day. He told me that he sensed early on, that if Liverpool scored, he feared supporters could be crushed by being pushed forward against the fences, as there appeared to be far too many of them in such a confined space. Himself and his mate managed to work their way to the back of the terrace which probably saved their lives. In those days, where you had a great number of people stood together, there was always the risk of something unpredictable happening. Down the years there have been several tradegies at football matches in various parts of the world. In the U.K. there have been five major incidents, that have sadly cost the lives of some 276 supporters. The Taylor Report outlining the need for all seater stadia meant that tradegies similar to Ibrox Park in 1902 , Burnden Park 1946, and Hillsborough 1989, have thankfully not been repeated. As we know. the Valley Parade fire was caused by combustible litter under a wooden Stand, being ignited. The tradegy around that incident was that the Club were intending to replace it with a steel structure during that close season. The death of 66 fans at Ibrox in 1971, was caused when fans leaving the Stadium were trampled when supporters leaving turned round in an attempt to return to the terraces when Rangers scored in a game against Celtic.
There but for the grace of God was I ... Applies to us all who attended matches in those days... I will never forget the overwhelming sence of sadness that hung in the air the day I laid a wreath like thousands more did at Anfield... The crowd was so large I queued almost all a round the ground to get in... Everyone in total silence... Very emotional indeed.... Just like all the other football incidents... Thankfully I wasn't there... But Hillsborough brought it home... Should never have happened... Nor should have the cover up that Thatcher and her Tory whipping boys conjected to render South Yorkshires finest free from blame.... And above reproach... At the time... Same goes for Orgreave... Justice is what's called for... Liars covering for Liars... So let's have it all out in the open until the liars, out each other and the truth emerges and justice can be served.
Leppings lane was a car crash waiting to hapen. I was in there in the early 80s when Parker got smashed by that Wednesday ****. I was crushed and there was no where to go. The fact that Dukinfield was like a rabbit in headlights was a major factor. However if the cover up by SYP had never happened this would have been blown away years ago. It's that factor that people want justice just like myself and all my former colleagues dead or alive want justice for Orgreave. Truth of the matter is lies lies and more lies and blame so that no one becomes accountable. Someone in this situation as to be accountable .This is not a witch hunt
Is it not the case that a number of claims brought by miners injured on the day were settled out of court by SYP? I seem to recall reading that somewhere. If that is the case then clearly there has been some degree of accountability? Although I suppose that the terms of settlement of the claims will no doubt have been on the basis of 'with no admission of liability' - even though the payment of compensation in itself implies that liability. What further sanction do you think would constitute 'justice'? (I'm not making any point here - I just found it interesting to hear only recently that claims had been settled.)
This is not about claims. It's about truth and justice. Lies lies cover ups. The truth about Orgreave will never come out until there is a public enquiry we know what happened that day. The media portrayed the miners as thugs . Thugs in t shirts and trainers . WHY would any right minded bloke would pick a fight with blokes in riot gear being charged on horseback and bludgeoned down . Most ran some stopped and payed the price they didn't deserve the treatment they received that day. I believe in the fact that every dog as his day . Justice for Hillsboro. Justice for Orgreave and for those not alive . We have a duty to those not here to see this through
I agree it's an outrage there hasnt been an inquiry into Orgreave but there has been with Hilsborough and a trial already. On another matter there are still tower blocks covered in flammable cladding which we already know can have catastrophic effects.
No lives would have been lost at either Hillsbrough nor Bradford were it not for the obviously problematic fence around the playing area. All of which mystically disappeared when problems arose. Therefore unfair to have this former officer stand alone and publically pilloried.
Bradford didn't have a fence. The vast majority of fans escaped by running on the pitch. Those who lost their lives tried getting out via the gates at the back which were lockef
