The Bible is a collection of ancient texts - dating back to about 900 BC. The Old Testament books were probably produced over a few centuries by various Jewish Scholars. Some of them didn't make the cut for inclusion in the present authorised version of the Bible - these are known as the Apocrypha. The New Testament is a different matter - as the books were produced after the death of Christ. There is little historical doubt that Jesus Christ did exist - and was crucified by the Romans - the Roman historian Josephus is the first independent person to write of that fact. The other books of the New Testament were written at different times and in different languages. Eventually the Latin Vulgate version of the Bible was accepted in Western Europe by the Roman Catholic Church. The King James authorised version was the first official translation into English - other underground pirated versions existed before that. Now different branches of Christianity had produced their own modern translations - some of which vary quite a bit form each other. Jehovah's Witnesses is a case in point...
You can add Putin & half the leaders in Africa to the list. Education is the key. Most religions date back to times when the masses were uneducated. The Catholic church, the Orthodox Church & elements of the Baptist Church are as to blame as the Muslim / Hindu faiths. Most of the colonial countries in Africa, including Brunei inherited the laws from their colonial masters.
There probably was a person who was supposedly the son of God and maybe some people believed it and others didn't. I'm 99.9% certain there is no such thing as God.
So gays being stoned to death in Islamic countries is the fault of colonialism? Which colonial powers stoned gays to death? Or do you mean it's their fault for not telling them it's not very nice to stone people to death?
It's quite simple the fact Barnsley FC, a club that when first formed was a church team founded by Vicar, haven't gone on the win every trophy they've been entered in since we were formed proves once and for all that religion is clap trap and their isn't a god. End of argument
Its staggering that in 2019 there are still so many countries (74 I think) where homosexuality is illegal. Some still implement the death penalty. The map below is three years old so not sure if still accurate but I would bet it's pretty close.
I think you will find that there has been an international outcry about this. Mass executions in Saudi are largely kept quiet, as we sell them arms & they sell us oil. The fact is when the countries were given independence these laws were on the statute books. Of course stoning people to death, or any form of capital punishment (as in also meted out in many states in the USA), is barbaric.
Jesus definitely lived. His life is not only recorded in the Bible, but it is worth remembering that two other political/religious groups in Israel at the time were the Jews and the Romans with their occupation troops as part of the Roman Empire. Hardly surprising, therefore, that the Jews recorded brief details of the life of Jesus (Jeshu) in their Talmud (diary of events), including that he had disciples, worked in the supernatural and was put to death. The Roman records are mainly from Pliny the Elder, who was a commander in the Roman army and records Jesus as the figure-head of the newly-formed Christians. Pliny was concerned that the rapid growth of Christian groups after the Crucifixion was starting to make the Roman temples redundant, as so many, including Roman soldiers, were moving to the Christian faith. He sought authorisation to persecute the Christians as a consequence in order to nip the Christian faith in its bud, but this was turned down by his authorities. Surprising, really, as the Romans liked any sort of blood-bath. There is no doubt that Jesus lived, but it is who you think he was which makes you a Christian, or not. It is that simple.
Dispite common beliefs, Allah is the same god as the one in Christianity and Judaism. Only the prophet is different, I do seem to recall reading the notion that he was carried to heaven on a winged horse. Many years ago I did read some of the Quarn, in truth its very similar to the bible.
Of course there was an outcry and rightly so. Most people executed in the US have committed heinous crimes and are not executed in the name of religion. While I'm not saying it's right, it's ever so slightly different to stoning people to death for being gay or committing adultery.
Just be glad you can be yourself in our country, as long as Rees Mogg or Anne Widdecombe don't get into power. Fingers crossed.
