Are you honestly suggesting that if you're a player and you get offered a contract by Chelsea, you wouldn't go? Of course you would.
Had won the league with Leicester and would have backed his own ability to go and win a place in the Chelsea team. Turns out he was wrong, but if he hadn't gone he would have looked back and regretted it I think.
Being sat on your backside for two years on a six figure weekly salary doesn't sound like a waste to me.
I like him, but not a flair player so didnt really suit at Chelsea. Be a right signing for the blades
Must of known he was going to sit a lot of time out by moving to Chelsea. A very rich man in any case who decided to swap game time for cash. Good memories of time spent on the pitch would be a lot more satisfying in the long run than counting money, at least for him.
In fairness to him, in his first season he had two injuries and still managed to play 22 times for them, they then changed Managers who made it clear he did not fit in his plans.
Always struck me as odd how Sky made him a pundit on a prediction based betting system knowing he was addicted to gambling.
Whilst doing my mental health nursing training, we had a guy come speak to us who had written a book about how gambling ruined his life. He's been on several tv shows and has had articles in some of the daily newspapers. One of the questions we asked him at the end was did he believe that gambling should be made illegal. His standpoint was no, as millions of people enjoy a flutter every day without problem. I was quite surprised he felt this way, but I guess outlawing alcohol due to a minority abusing it would be a bit daft. I agree that it is odd that Merson chooses to work for a company that actively encourages gambling, though. I believe he probably does so because he has no other viable option financially.
I can certainly understand him working for them, and even doing his predictions for Super 6 which is after all free to enter. Just always seemed odd to me that he actually appears in the Skybet adverts themselves.
I was once linked with Kylie Minogue. Never happened. The link was extremely tenuous and I believe the rumour was started by me. But I reckon I had a better chance than Sheff Utd have of signing Danny Drinkwater.
