....however the difference in quality between the Championship Play-Offs and the League One Play-Offs is huge. I know that L***s, Derby, Villa and WBA are top six, but even so, it puts into perspective the step-up in quality we need to make next season to avoid immediate relegation.

I honestly think players we bring in need to displace existing players and not simply supplement.

A year is a long time and some of us forget.....

While I agree with you in diffrence in the championship and league one play offs. I think the diffrence to the top of the championship to the bottom is also massive rotherham didn't strenghten and almost stayed up with micheal Smith as their striker.
If they was a play off between the bottom 6 of the championship I imagine the football would also be world's apart from watching derby v Leeds or villa v West brom

Just looked at the table to take heart from your statement. Suppose we need to finish above 3 of Millwall, QPR, Reading, Wigan, Luton and Play-Off winner. Doable.

Mowatt is most definitely good Championship level. Woodrow too. Cavare can hold his own with more discipline, and Thiam can improve again. Pinnock (if we keep him) has the potential to be a good Championship centre back. Lindsay to a lesser extent, with the slight worry being his pace. Keiffer is somewhere between a good League One player and bottom end Championship, but I would never knock the bloke on his commitment alone. He can play his part. Mc Geechan is a promising work in progress, to my mind. And his ability is close to that of Potts but with more industriousness. I think Davies will go, so there's a gap there. The other players have promise to my way of thinking, but will need to step up. So I think we need reinforcements, but no reason for them not to be development projects, albeit fished from a higher pool. In short, we have the mekkings!

Suppose if you look at it like that maybe I'm been optimistic but I can see Wednesday struggling next season. The gap between the top 6 and bottom 6 of the championship has always been massive imo.

Keiffer'll be OK, if not scoring so many himself, at least giving defenders something to deal with and hopefully opening up opportunities for others to do the scoring, particularly Woodrow. As for McGeehan, I'm not convinced at this level, never mind the Championship, I also think Thiam will be gone - there's been something not quite right with him for a couple of months now. Oh and while I'm on one, I think Brown will be a revelation in the Championship, at least 'till the cart-hos cloggers take him out.

I'm also an optimist, but I don't think it's feasible to expect us to sign players that push us to be challenging for a Play Off place next season. I do expect us to bring in players that mean a midtable, or lower midtable, position is obtainable.

The gaps between the leagues seem to get bigger the higher up they are. Look at the gap between the championship top 6 and then the premier league top 6, it’s absolutely light years apart.

I don’t think anyone is realistically saying we’ll be going for top 6 next season. I don’t see why mid table shouldn’t be our aim though, I think our starting 11 is good enough to get that and certainly enough to stay up. Squad wise, I’m not so sure though. I think we need a decent amount in terms of numbers.

It's not that long ago that Sheff United went up to the Championship.

They haven't bust a financial gut to finish second this season.

    We need not be frightened.

I think our confidence and team spirit will be worth a few points at the beginning of the season, just like last time. How well we do as the season progresses will depend largely on three things:

    1. How many of the current squad have improved rather than just finding their level this season
    2. How many championship ready players we sign
    3. How many of the players who can handle the 2nd tier that we manage to keep ALL season

It's going to be a while, even when the season starts, before we will have a clue where we stand in comparison to the others.

I will stick my neck out now before a ball has been kicked in anger... We will finish 10th in the league.... Don't ask me how or why.... Gut feeling...

I totally agree, L***s lost 11 games since boxing day and still ended up third and if Derby are the sixth best team in the championship it gives hope to us all. Be amazed if any of them survive in the Premiership however.
