They used to be our bogey team early1980s home and away. I'm sure i recall Steve Mclaren playing midfield for them donkeys years ago
David Moyes definitely played for them. Scored a last minute own goal winner for us, which was particularly amusing as he's a distant relative of mine. I'd written to him when he played for Bristol City to find out if we had a family connection (I was about 8). He sent me a very lengthy reply, so I decided to fire off another letter after the own goal incident. Fortunately, my dad intercepted it before it ever made it to the post box.
Maybe they'll kick the **** out of half our team again, ride their luck by not getting anyone sent off, and beat us that way.
We put in our worse performance of the season at their ground. That was a long journey home. They seem blind to our league position, like they think we play like that all the time.
Went there about 5 times in the 80s. We lost most of them, but won the last one 3-2 on new years eve. I think that was the last time we played at Gay Meadow because they were relegated. Any young fans that have just started following us away over the last 4 years are living the dream compared to us in the 80s. We were largely gash away from Oakwell after about 84.
Baka you knicked my thunder there....Yep if they get lucky with a tolerant, blind ref......they can kick us off the park.....again. Hope we stand up to them this time.
Only a bit of fun really. To be fair, the OP Says he's only been to 2 games all season, so is judging them on one game against a poor team. Majority of the others don't fancy their chances against us. That said, every game now has pressure on for us, and they'll be hoping it's a leveller.
That would be nice. Sunderland don't play Donnie until teatime so if we could put 5 points between us and them before they kick off, it would be an extra bit of pressure for them.
Yep, and also Luton play on Saturday at Accrington. So a win would put a bit of pressure on them. I expect them to win at Accy to be fair, but there's a bit of niggle between the club's so you just never know. Would be great to drag them back into it with 3 games left.
We've beat them 14 times out of 20 at Oakwell. https://www.soccerbase.com/teams/head_to_head.sd?team_id=208&team2_id=2325
I remember our first game back in the old second division after The 81 promotion and we demolished them 4-0. Same again please.
you I was at that game (and was also 8 years old) - that was the one we won 3-2 that someone else mentioned. Steve Lowndes also scores for us.
