BREAKINGEnd of operation of WOW AIR
WOW Air's latest travel update shows that it has ended operations.

It states: End of operation of Wow Air

"WOW AIR has ceased operation. All WOW AIR flights have been cancelled," it says.

On its website it advises passengers to check available flights with other airlines.

Some airlines may offer flights at a reduced rate, so-called rescue fares, in light of the circumstances. Information on those airlines will be published, when it becomes available, it says."
So have they ended operations?. It isn't clear!! The amazing thing is that two of them wrote this and they couldn't see anything wrong before it was uploaded to the business webpage:rolleyes:

Bit of a weird thing to make a thread about.

Me neither. Maybe he was too busy tugging one out over his belief that the BBC made a mistake to read it again and double check.

"WOW AIR has ceased operation. All WOW AIR flights have been cancelled,"

    That seems clear to me...

Clearly none of you guys had the same teachers for English I had. The point was that the whole thing could have been covered in a single sentence not repeated several times. My wife - a teacher for 37 years found it amusing. Obviously we don't get out much

That would be fair enough if it was all an article. But I'm seeing a headline (in bold), a single sentence explaining it and then the quoted statement (which admittedly repeats that same statement as a title and then the first sentence of the copy)

It's not ideal, and it isn't helped by it being quite a clumsy sentence anyway, but it's hardly the most egregious example of journalistic incompetence you could have picked!

Maybe your points regarding the bbc/immigrants/etc. could have been covered in a single post not repeated several times.

    Just as well.

Actually it wasn't. Your point was that the article wasn't clear whereas it was in fact very clear as other posters have pointed out.

Your real point was to have a go at the BBC when you didn't have anything to have a go at them about, something that didn't put you off. Hence your embarrassment.

The comment "It Isn't clear" was (obviously) a failed attempt at sarcasm. It is just that it was another example where the standards fell well below the those you would expect from journos from our national broadcaster.

Not sure what your comment "just as well" implies. Given my levels of literacy are considered by many to be above average

I can't remember ever asking anyone (or being asked) for a literacy levels rating. Do you hand out a questionnaire to friends and family?

Also it's a bit of a weird thing to get your knickers in a twist about given that you live abroad - it's not as if you're even contributing a licence fee to "our" national broadcaster and if you don't like the BBC then other news sources are available.

Do you point out inaccuracies in Rai stories on the forum for your local Italian third tier team with similar priapic glee?

Put the Thesaurus away . You're a very naughty boy! I didn't get my knickers in a twist...I just found the writing clumsy to the point of mild amusement (as I said we obviously don't get out much). It's all the subsequent posts that seem to have made something of it. I will put this down a 'fail' on my part although I find the personal digs from some a bit unnecessary (but not entirely unexpected)

It's a live blog article and not a news article, anyway. The conventions for writing them are different.

    It's the difference between:

    1) LIVE: McGeehan goal promotes Barnsley.
Barnsley up as Cameron McGeehan scores Tykes' third goal against Blackpool.

    and

    2) Barnsley confirmed an immediate return to the Championship as Blackpool were downed at Oakwell.
Goals from Cauley Woodrow, a Mamadou Thiam sizzler, and Cameron McGeehan's last-minute effort ensured the Tykes finish second behind League One champions Luton.

As far as the conventions of a live blog go, the BBC article is fine.
