Don't know how accurate it is, but apparently we are keen on 17 year old former Hartlepool defender Luca Murphy who is currently a free agent. Rumoured that Sunderland, Newcastle, Man Utd , Fulham and Leeds are also interested.
Makes sense GTR. More likely to get a regular game with us given the fact, that if they are good enough we are not afraid to give young players the chance to establish themselves. Wouldn't think he would get much game time at Newcastle or Man Utd and Fulham might not risk blooding a young player given their current parlous position in the Premiership. Also, I think Leeds will go with their established, proven defenders in an attempt to nail down an automatic promotion place, so hopefully Hartlepool manager Craig Hignett has advised him that his future really lies at Oakwell.
Agree Donny. ( Think there was a hint of sarcasm in gtr's reply. But agree with him regarding the majority of young uns that will go where most money and higher profile apply) Some choose the way that you describe and hope to build up a career and not line their pockets at first then end up on the scrapheap as lots do. Several players have chosen Barnsley over higher wages offered elsewhere. To establish a career. Mawson and Woodrow 2 of em I believe. Did'nt McBurnie choose us over Leeds or is that wishful thinking on my part.
Looks to have been with the " Monkey Hangers" from being nine years of age and because of the interest shown in him, he's decided not to sign a deal to stay with Hartlepool United and is now looking to move elsewhere. Impressed with his free kick against Lincoln City in the clip on the attachment below. Could be a useful addition, if of course he opts to join us and is not swayed by the offers that some of the other Clubs listed are capable of making. https://www.hitc.com/en-gb/2019/03/...ive-facts-about-the-teenage-defender-leeds-u/
Agree with GTR. A lot of young players can get their heads turned by some of the offers they recieve. The dilemma I suppose is, at 17 years old, do I sign for a big Club and wait for my chance three or four years down the line to play first team football, or do I sign for a Club with Barnsley's reputation of giving youth a chance and serve an " apprenticeship" hopefully playing in the EFL, until I reach the standard where a Premiership Club might want to sign me, unless of course Barnsley themselves are in the Premiership at that point.?
Hope they get what is owed if what they say is true and he has gone down and been poached so they don't have to pay compo. The compo would have been peanuts to Fulham but meant alot to a club like hartlepool.
Didn't the recent article about the processes we now go through to decide whether to sign a player talk a lot about their attitudes having to be right? Sounds like as good as he may be, either he or his agent are not what we want.
