Hated the place, glad it got levelled, if you went there while I was there I probably hated you too.

Well I may have hated you back! I certainly hated that school - diabolical. Only two could actually teach. Ian Beasley and Fitzsimmons.

    Next door, St Helens...

We weren't allowed to use their pool, rumour has it that some kid from our school had diarrhea during a lesson once...

Once played against Eddie Sheeran at their place needing a point to take the schools title. Their Head of Games was Reffing. I got (brutally) tackled and ended up off the pitch. When i got up and came back on, the Bast*rd sent me off for 'entering the pitch without the referee's permission'. Tw*t. Still got the point though. I think he went on to Referee professionally. What was his name? Willard, Kettle or something...

Back in the 70s, our school in Hemsworth used to play them at football. They played at Dorothy Hymans.

Eventually we all ended up at the same school when we went to st Wilfrids.

I can remember seeing a few of them at reds games in the early 80s, but haven't seen any of them since.

Jesus - the Helenners! Sharing a bus with them after school was always an experience. Bit like West Belfast, Basra and Beiruit but with added menace.

Can see a trend forming here. I went also and absolutely hated the place. Can’t think of any redeeming features. Bloody Boris, Fenny and Mrs Deighton the axis of evil. I am exaggerating slightly there and I know Mrs D followed the reds so she scores some credit there. Looking back I can’t say anything positive about the place.

You sure you're not mixing it up with St Mary Magdelenes at Cudeth. I went to that school and we used to play Hemsworth on a pitch that, if you were being very generous, could be said to have a 'slight slope'. Once won a game there 11-10 after being 10-0 down at half time. Aye that was some slope! I also went onto St Wilfs before leaving after a couple of years for St Micks.

We used to have a similar thing at St wilfs. There was always a group of local lads hanging around when we were on breaks. They were known as "fev mob".

They were always trying to get us to go out and fight them, and sometimes some of our lads would oblige.

Rumour used to be that our games teacher, Ray Rowett, aided by some beefy sixth formers had seen them off whilst carrying javelins! probably never happened, but seemed a good tale at the time.

Once got caned by Stonsie for fighting with the Fev Mob! And Ray Rowett - Head of Games. He could get quite tasty if you got on the wrong side of him! For all the madness of St Micks, it couldn't compete with the raw brutality of St Wilfs.

Ah you will have been the year above me then. Mick Lyons, Steven Voliere, ? Lane, were in my year, plus Clare Wilson and Catherine Burke, amongst others. Quite a few didn't finish their schooling with us though. Must have gone to st Michaels?

Spot on. Voz was great little footballer. I was in the same year as his Sister - Sandra. Mick Lyons followed BFC for years. Don't know if he still does. When we'd all got a little older two of my mates (Big BFC fans ) went out with Catherine Burke (Lady Di lookalike) and Clare Wilson. Catherine's Dad, Bill, was a top bloke. Huge Barnsley Fan and an NUM official (at South Kirby I think) in his sixties during the strike. Bizarrely his Son ended up in the Police's SPG, on the other side. Tragic.
