Agree BT. Guaranteed to "bop a drollock " almost every game. Cost us a few goals did Matty.
Loved watching Neil Thompson. Always remember a goal he scored against Charlton Athletic
at Oakwell. We were on the Ponte Road terrace when Tommo unleashed an unstoppable
shot from the left hand side and it flew like an Excocet into the top corner of the net.

He scored 2 v Charlton late in the season in a 4-0 win, the better one was a low raking shot into the bottom corner. I think the one you mean was at home to Stoke early season when we won 3-0 and probably the cleanest shot I've seen. Rare to see a shot still rising when it hits the net from 30 yards.

But there was something about Mary...

I thought it was a fantastic bunch of players, plenty of hungry youngsters with attacking high octane football. But those crucial older heads that gelled it all together.

I watched that with my son on YouTube earlier this season and was surprised how angry I got! So blatant!

Cheers DWLC. I stand corrected. Time certainly dims the old grey matter. You're right it was
Stoke City, it was an absolute "screamer." Only one better than that, I've seen, was Barnies crossfield
volley against Huddersfield in our 7-1 win. When we beat Charlton 4-0, was that the game when
our former midfielder Brendan O' Connell was in the Addicks side.? He was a real honest pro
when he was with us and will always remember his and Archie's goals away at Leeds when we
won 2-1 the season they were promoted. Sadly against us, Brendan's best days looked to be well and truly
behind him and he lasted one season at the Valley and one with Wigan after that, before drifting into non League
football. Had a pint with him and Ooh Gerry Gerry in the Hilton Wembley the night before our Semi
final against Cardiff and Brendan was telling us he had to quit in his thirties when he had a blood clot
form in his leg. Great company, great bloke. Incidentally, Gerry had the Reds fans laughing, doing one armed press
ups.!!! What a character Gerry was and I bet still is.

Agh Wembley 2008. Still have flashbacks. Kayode through on goal, one on one with their keeper
and then...... Oh No. !! Always remember the ditty our fans used to sing to the tune of Amore "when the ball hits his head and winds up in Row Z, that's Kayode."!!

Don't recall Brendan being in the Charlton team, but he could have been. I do recall coming out of the ground believing we actually could go up after that game, think that was the day Wolves slipped at Reading.

Barnards goal was outrageous and by far the best Ive seen from a Barnsley player, though I'd still give the best overall to Trevor Sinclair, not sure that can be bettered.
