2016 were individually better but as a collective this is the better team for me - loving the football this season
It's a hard call the 2016 team went on to have a real good crack at the championship. This is largely the team that went down. Time will tell, I think the likes of Woodrow and Mowatt have the ability to be as successful as Hourihane and Winnall were for us. Clearly this team will dwarf the points total of 2016 but if we fail to go up will have achieved less. As they say it's a funny old game.
This team will probably break the all time points record, let’s see how they do in the Championship first but purely on league 1 form this team pisses it.
Well over the course of the season it’s this one as it’ll amount more points but by the end of the 2016 season we were the best team in league one by some distance we smashed Wigan at their place, battered Walsall home & away & comfortably defeated Millwall in the play offs, we never looked like losing. So I’d say if the two teams at their best met then 2016 wins
It's a good question. The 2016 team went from losers to winners almost overnight, and in the second half of the season they were irresistible. Today's lads are battering all opposition, and at times look like they're from a different league. I think both seasons show just how much difference a decent manager can make with the same players. Hides behind sofa.....
Smashed Wigan? They had nothing to play for. That 2016 team suffered the most embarrassing FA Cup exit in my lifetime and sat at the lowest league position in my lifefime. Ive been watching since 84. Overhyped that team.
They were dreadful in the first half of the season but ultimately they got it together & they ended up beating almost everyone in the second half of that season & about 6 or 7 of them then went on to have us 7th in the championship before they got broken up. Was one hell of a good team
Other than Davies can’t see anyone in the current team who would get in the team in the latter half if the 2016 season. Having said that they would all get in it up to the Sheff Utd match st home.
I'm wondering if Bare might be the gem ifor we go up. I think with the team spirit we have and the style of football we play that we could cope with the Championship Exciting to watch at the moment that's for sure.
They also took us to 7th in the Championship most of this lot took us down. They achieved promotion this team hasn't done that yet. For me it's not a simple as just looking at points on the board. The question was 2016 so in my mind that's the second half of the promotion season and the first half of the championship season. Over that period that team were amazing and had me dreaming of the premier league.
The similarities are uncanny- Roberts/Mawson- Lindsay/Pinnock - both solid Hourihane/Scowen or Brownhill - Mowatt/Mcgeehan or Dougall Winnall/Fletcher - Moore/Woodrow - and you can go on What I do know is that these lads haven’t reached their potential yet and time will tell whether they adjust to the championship - having said that, I wasn’t sure the last promoted team had the ability either and they proved me wrong!
This team is better for my money, simply because we've been there or there abouts all season. Johnson and Heckys team had a fantastic run for half a season, and improved further when it came to beating Wigan, Walsall and Millwall. These lads have lost 5 games from 31 and have handed out some spankings along the way. How many times have we scored 4 and come away thinking we should have got more? you could argue we had some better individuals, because they got moves away for better money, but generally I think this is a better team.
Look at this table mate. https://www.google.com/search?q=lea...TF-8#sie=lg;/m/0131_0m2;2;/m/0355sz;st;fp;1;;
Is that down to the coaching and organisation- same team that almost got Leicester relegated won the Premiership
This team are much much better at winning games when they're not playing well. Up until December in the promotion season, with some notable exceptions, we weren't playing well, and invariably we lost. Up until December this season , with a few more notable exceptions, we weren't playing well but we tended to win. The home victories over Bristol Rovers, Southend and recently against Rochdale were dire affairs, but we won. In the promotion season we lost such games. In both seasons, in December, we started playing well consistently, the odd blip, but we'll usually go out and blast the opposition off the park, just like in 2016. I think man for man the 2016 team were better. But this team is just as effective when both are on their game and much more so when they're not.
I dare say a lot of it is yes. I hope we get the chance to see what Stendal can do it the Championship.
The big difference for me is the number of loan players in the two teams. Once promotion was achieved last time, we immediately lost five players from the squad. The current one has one, Bahre on a season long loan with a view to making it permanent, which means I personally have a greater affinity to today's team. However, one of my all-time favourite players was THE player that season, Conor Hourihane. Ultimately, the 2016 won promotion. This one hasn't, yet. If they do, I'll go for them (inspite of Conor).
