https://www.independent.co.uk/news/...l-spending-merseyside-yorkshire-a8749251.html They keep calling us a city which we're not, but the article is an interesting one. "The Yorkshire city has seen a 40 per cent reduction in day-to-day council spending – a higher proportion than anywhere else in Britain, according to a new report by the Centre for Cities." Other towns/cities up at the top are Donny, Wakey and Blackburn. Playing Devil's advocate here, but could the Tories be targeting savings in safe Labour seats more than Tory/mixed seats because in first past the post it means they can save more money and lose basically no seats?
Quite why anyone from round here ever voted for the tories is beyond me. Not saying vote labour just anyone but them they have done more damage to us than even the Germans managed in 2 world wars.
Labour wont spend due to it being a safe seat for them. Torys wont spend as theyve not a hope in hell of winning it.
as I look out of the frontroom window of the "villa depresso" I can see within 50 m the council digging up a patch of grass opposite 'cos the field nextdoor floods ( I've been here 15 years and never known it) that's 1x jcb+1x transit van, and 1x little van. house opposite 1x tranny van and putting scaffolding up at "belly's" place then council working nextdoor on the electrics, 1x tranny van, tomorrow they're fitting me a new boiler, weds i'm getting all new plugs and switch's and also my chimney is being repointed when the scaffoldigs put up its like smithies lane depot on my street. I mean its not like the council are spending all the money they.ve saved by cutting things and getting it spent so its not taken off next years budget, as I have just finished typing the boiler guys just turned up to change the boiler 'cos there's been a change of plan. as a point of interest theres nothing wrong with the old boiler ( unlike my ex wife) it 12 years old that's all
Not only have they voted for them, they will defend them and continue to vote for them. You only have to read this board to find evidence of that. Just like the Tory Party, I can only suspect that as they live in their Ivory Towers they’re selfishness shows no boundaries. Yes you can reply and attack/ criticise the Labour Party, and other parties, all you want, but the bottom line is, It’s the Tories who are in Govt. and continue using Our Tarn as their favourite punchbag. There is no respite or let up of their vindictive policies. All this Only Tories can be trusted with the economy, what utter ******.
And yet the deluded Brexiteers believe more money will be spent on the region once we've left the EU - you couldn't make it up.
This council and Mr Houghton ought to be well ashamed of themselves I travel a bit to other areas but always know when I am arriving in Barnsley area. The amount of litter, from plastic bottles, carrier bags , mcDonalds boxes , plastic sacks , some in trees, and loads of other litter has now got serious. The road gutters and grates are covered over with debris. Water runs all over causing flooding This litter has never been moved for years. I know that if people did not throw it out a lot would disappear, but a lot is discarded off lorries etc. It is not all cuts to budget, it is just simply that Mr Houghton could not care a Fook. Scruffy comes to mind
I thought it was common knowledge but obviously not but That’s what the Tories always do hit safe labour seats and the poorest in general . They are noted for it throughout history . They oppose most social reforms that gives dignity to the recipients . They opposed anational health service , social housing building look back in history and they are not the friend of the working man .
Ah, so all the ills of this Town fall squarely on Steve Houghton’s shoulders. I’m not championing Steve Houghton or the Council, but vindictive Tory cuts are to blame for the demise of this Town and it’s services, There is no way that having strewn litter, and other things you mention is exclusive to Barnsley.
and what’s your point. We don’t have a Labour Govt with vindictive policies towards our Town. Sorry, should I have replied in bigger font and in bold?
