Why don’t we just write these two new players off before they kick a ball in anger for us, hang on that seems to be what this board is good at, since we’ve not signed messi, Ronaldo or hazard then some are unhappy, we’ve done well sknce Potts has gone and adapted Moncur didn’t need replacing as he wasn’t getting a start or even off bench so no great loss. I’m happy to see young players come to the club and I’ll reserve judgment until they’ve at least had a few games for us
To "offer competition" for a first team place is not the same as going straight into the 1st team. It seems to me questionable to let decent players go at this most promising stage of the season, and bring in lower league/inexperienced replacements. If Jackson goes we're asking for trouble.
I don't know how talented these lads are, so I'm not going to jump to any conclusions before they've even pulled on a shirt. The club has done well so far, in my opinion, with our signings for the first team this season (Dougall, Woodrow, Bahre), with another couple of young 'uns (Jordan Williams & Callum Styles) waiting in the background. There may be more incomings before the window closes, I don't know.
I thought our main objective was to sign a couple of wingers, we have done that. What other position do we need?
Read about Jamie Vardy. Les Ferdinand. Jimmy Bullard and Gary Birtles. (To name a few) Exceptions to the rule, I agree. But Happens.
On the face of it we’ve replaced moncur and Potts with 2 young lads raised over 2 million quid and also trimmed the wage bill, results so far (in a very short sample) haven’t dipped and the team appears just as strong so the happiest man is the chairman!! I’d love to see these new lads develop, time for new heroes!
Chris Smalling, Michael Antonio, Charlie Austin, Steve Morison, Lee Gregory, George Williams, Marc Roberts, Angus MacDonald, Ethan Pinnock a few more.
It's clear the policy is to continue to sign players from lower levels and sell them on at a profit. Some will work out some wont. Only way we will sign players from higher up is if they are young and haven't really made it at their current club e.g Woodrow.
It’s not where they come from or how old they are. Point is - are they likely to step straight into the vacancy left by Brad Potts ??? Or are these players ones for the future? I would say these are for the future - but I hope I’m wrong. In the mean time - what about the present? Green looks good - and just the type of player we are missing. But there is a playing system employed at Barnsley that has to be learnt. It might take time for him to adjust. We haven’t got time.
I think Jacob Brown is doing fine in the Brad Potts role, scoring and getting a couple of assists in his last two games. These two lads (and any other new signings, for that matter) will have to earn their place in the starting line up, which won't be easy considering the form of the team.
Jamal Lowe Portsmouth star who is attracting big championship interest they signed him from Hampton and Richmond bourgh. There is loads.
I agree. It's not an exact science and not every young lad from non league will prove to be the next Jamie Vardy. However, if we never bother looking and trying, then we'll never know that type of player is there and he'll be picked up by someone else.
I’m not knocking his signing, I just think he’s more for the future than the present that’s all. Be happy if he proves me wrong though.
Bang right Kev. And thing is we get them for so little outlay but if they do well we get a good wedge and so does the club we bought him from. Also if they don’t make it big, clubs are usually keen to take them off us for similar to what we paid cis of our reputation of bringing them on and if they come good after leaving us as the lad at Accrington we still have a financial interest . It’s win win for everyone buying club selling club and player imo. I think this whole strategy came about from Patrick’s dead fish eyes experience with the likes of Treacy and Lita .
