If Joe Bloggs signs a contract and insists on a release clause can you imagine the stick he'd get on here for being a mercenary before he'd even kicked a ball? The alternative to said release clause would be, in many cases, players refusing to sign for us anyway. Like it or lump it this club is a stepping stone for any players of talent that come through our doors and unless and until the new owners decide to loosen their purse strings that's going to remain the case.

So you're saying they just don't tell us to be arsey with us and keep us in the dark for the sake of it?

 

Don rowing actually said on radiorsheffield thst the john stones deal was undisclosed because the fans wouldn't be happy if they knew the figure. That train of thought was backed up by Patrick's admission that he didn't realise john stones was any good when he sold him

 

Maybe that's one of your reasons right there then. Why give ammunition to groups of supporters who would find reasons to be unhappy with any deal whatsoever done by the board?
Despite what PC said by the way we did pretty well out of the Stones deal. Even if that were an underestimation of his value it was hardly PC or the board's fault. Surely it was the responsibility of the coaching staff to alert them to his true value.

 

Do you mean why give fans ammunition which would prove they are correct to have misgivings?

 

No. I mean, and I'm not saying this is the only reason fees aren't disclosed, that if you know there's a certain section of people who will look to criticise, destabilise and create mischief at any given opportunity why give them ammunition.
There's a percentage of fans who want thread to needle on every tiny detail of the club but none of the responsibility that goes with the knowledge. Twist the argument any way you like the fans don't own the club. All we can do is hope the owners have our best interests at heart.
If I get the feeling the current owners don't I'll shout as loud as everyone else for what good it will do.
