https://www.skysports.com/watch/video/sports/football/11596386/luton-0-0-barnsley Cauley, Cauley! Trying to be too clever I think. Just slide it in. Watch out for a bit of outrageous skill from Mama on about 40 seconds which led to Brad Potts nearly scoring.
Looks like we should have had 1 or 2 today, but got lucky with that header they nodded straight at Davies. We should take confidence that we restricted them to a few half chances. Bradford are flying at moment so will be another good test after the cup game. Hope we show the same kind of performance.
Good to see us 'grinding out' a draw from the 'high flying Luton'. (Sky's words not mine, even though their own highlights showed vastly more Reds' chances...)
He’s high up in the player of the season rankings I reckon. The more he does these things, the better he will become.
Why are we trying to constantly score screamers from 30 or 40 yards ??? We might be getting a lot of shots in but these shots have to be exception from those ranges. Most have no chance of beating a decent goalkeeper from that range. We don’t seem to be scoring enough from 12 yards out - we need to get more players nearer the goal before shooting.
Given how Cauley and Mama have scored a few screamers between them from distance recently it appears to be a good tactic as they are obviously not the "most" you are referring to. Funny how several weeks ago people were complaining we were over complicating things and trying to walk the ball into the net and not trying enough shots. Mixing it up with speculative shots whilst playing a passing game and getting into the box surely keeps opponents guessing. If all your goals come from one tactic/player e.g. long ball up to a target man it makes life easier as they mark said target man out of the game. Currently Barnsley are a nightmare to defend against as the goals come from 3 or 4 players and that is before we take into account our missing leading goalscorer. Personally I don't care whether we score from 5, 10, 20, 30 yards as long as we score more than the opposition which at present we seem to be doing more often than not. Long may it continue.
Some of the best Barnsley sides I can remember have always had players that liked a pop from outside the box.
One of the greatest individual goals I have ever seen was during the Huddersfield demolition with Barnard volleying outside the area on the left hand side a cross coming in over his right shoulder. Caught it clean and it rocketed into the top right hand corner. If Messi or Ronaldo had scored it iwould be played over and over again.
Two points lost for me. Cauley Woodrow was put clean through very early on with a perfect pass from Mamadou, but he shot wide of the left hand post, when he should have scored to make it 0-1. A big miss. We outplayed them most of the first half. They came more into it in the 2nd half, but we still just missed that first goal. Brad Potts hit a goal-bound strong shot right in front of us, which ricocheted off the head of their number 4 and over the bar! Just before the end Alex Mowatt hit a 20 yarder destined for the top corner, which went inches off the post. I was especially impressed with Mamadou's shooting, with power from either foot. But top player for me was Alex Mowatt. Technically we were better than Luton, and it was disappointing not to beat them.
I think looking at Luton's home record a point & a clean sheet is a great result. The fact that it could & should have been more tells us how well we are doing at the minute. We need to make sure we don't slip up against Bradford, who are on an excellent run of form themselves. That is a potential banana skin, looking down the fixture list.
