Seems like they hold this at the last home match of the year to remember supporters and players who have passed away. Surely this can be arranged at Oakwell, seems like a fitting tribute. https://www.sunderlandecho.com/news...lence-ahead-of-saturday-s-home-game-1-9510246
It was supposed to happen at oakwell. A few years ago fans complained that we hadn't bothered to do a minute's silence for former players who died and they announced then that club policy going forward was for a yearly minutes silence for everybody lost that year. Never really happened although I do think we did it once recently with names scrolling on the scoreboard as well?
This is the best idea the one off applause get lost in my opinion - better all together with names in program or on screen
Me personally I’m happy to take part in 60 seconds of clapping if it helps a grieving family or a set of friends to remember someone who has passed away........ It really winds me up when folk get arsey about clapping for a minute
We’ve done it the last few years, a minutes applause at the last home game where the names of those who have passed are read out as well as shown on the scoreboard and in the programme, a bit of a reflection I suppose. You’ll see bits of information online in the lead up to the last home game, should people wish to pass on the names of departed Reds etc. I personally think it’s a nice touch. I’m assuming plenty of clubs do similar, be it at the end of the season or end of the year.
Was last year the first year whitey? I thought it might have been the year before that all the names were on the scoreboard. Im getting old my memory isn't what it used to be
Definitely happened before as my Dads name was printed in the programme, courtesy of Patrick Cryne no less
Please don't give me the clap when I'm gone. Too much sentimentality in the game - I come to watch football, not remember people I don't know anything about.
