Bad Guy or scapegoat??? Me personally a think he takes a lot of **** which is largely blown out of proportion. A see he’s been in front of ministers today over his recent purchase of HoF being grilled about what he can keep open, if it wasn’t for him there’d be a lot of people not eating turkey this Christmas
Scapegoat. He's in business to make money and the way to make money is to have shops open. It isn't in his interests to run the things into the ground, it's in his interest to turn them round and make money. Conditions at the sports direct warehouse are NOT as bad as they're made out to be in the media. Certainly no worse than many other big warehouses. ASOS, Amazon etc.
That's why Mike Ashley (not anyone else) got called into appear in front of a Parliamentary select committee to answer why both his shop and warehouse workers are treated so poorly, or maybe why he's engaged in various illegal deals within football in the past couple of years. Stand up bloke, only doing business.
They are exactly as they make out in the media.. exactly the same as the other big warehouse/ online retailers.. Horrendous... improved slightly. But not much.
By Christ on a bike we agree on something! Ha.... Your right, he’s worth god knows how billions as he’s put his ****** on the line time after time and took a gamble with his money, I think you’ve got to take your hat off to him personally.
But is the idea of it all to make as much money as possible?? His products must be worthy hence why it’s worth X billion
The sports direct warehouse isn't as bad as it's made out to be not be a long way. I'm not saying it's Butlins or anything but it's not like they make it out either. It does frustrate me slightly that the media get stuck into one thing rather than saying this happens here, here, here and here
As the owner of Newcastle he has to take a lot of the blame for their relative instability. As an employer I think the guy is terrible.
That's because the media got hold of it and the MPs HAD to act because they would have looked bad publicly if not
That’s because it does. I have a couple of good mates who work there. Office staff are looked after. Warehouse staff... ***** given are somewhere between none and zero. Essentially if you don’t like it don’t bother turning up. Disposable in the politest of terms
I've been in that warehouse about 50 times. No different to any other warehouse I've ever been in. Well it is actually, it's a lot better than some
The Media get hold of stories all the time, remember when the ASOS warehouse burned down and it started coming out that it was like working in a sweatshop. It doesn't matter whether other Warehouses do it the end of the day, two wrongs don't make a right and the way he acts in every aspect is wrong.
It's a matter of public record that he doesn't treat his staff at the bottom of the ladder very well. He may be no worse than some other employers but that doesn't mean he's a good employer.
Im not saying hes a good employer. What I was saying was that he's a bit of a scapegoat in that he's no different to all the 9thers but the MPs and media turn a blind eye to them and scapegoat him because it suits their agendas
That doesn't mean he's a scapegoat, he's a bad employer and deserves the negative press. The thread is about him so just giving my opinion on him. ASOS and Amazon have had negative press for similar reasons, as have several large courier firms.
