I'd love to see a one off match between 2 top flight teams take place (obviously in the close season) where the ball and kit used is from the 60's just to see how the modern footballer copes with the low tech gear. I would think that just the weight alone of the ball, boots and kit would make if a tough and tiring 90 minutes plus the skill factor would be greatly reduced. Any thoughts?
I actually thought of that after I posted and you're right, the pitches back in the day we're shocking thru the winter months, Derby county's Baseball ground was like a ploughed field
I was at a local game in Tralee a few weeks back and was stood next to a lad warming up to come on. I've got slippers more substantial than what he had on his feet. And they're not fluorescent green either!
Watch the Sir Stanley Matthews final... absolutely blew my mind! By the end, there are about four players on the pitch not carrying significant injuries!
Very close. Though it's a hell of a job getting slippers here. It seems Irish blokes don't wear em much. Wellies are more popular.
Or during the game if you were our goalie. It was the only booking he ever got, we had a jumped up ref from Sheffield who booked him for leaving the pitch for a light off his mate stood behind the nets. Incidentally that’s something else you’re not allowed to do anymore.
Would I have to dress up in my 60's gear. Scarf roundt neck. One on each wrist. One on left jeans belt loop and one on lefr belt loop. Reminds me of walking down oakwell lane with all this red and white and a group of Grimsby neanderthals approached me and said. ( You couldn't make it up) " derrr are you a Barnsley fan". My reply " errrr no". Still got me a good kicking. B'stds.
