Was on 6 music last week. Late 70's / early 80's this was my bag. Great vocals by white boys, who are up there with the Motown legends. Other mods out there, or northern soulies, skins, etc?
As Weller said. I was born a mod you can bury me a mod. For Mod bands no one will ever come near the Small faces.
On a musical note going to the Salford Lads Club Tim Burgess Record Fair on sunday. Looking forward to it.

Secret Affair. In my opinion the second best Mod band of the time behind The Jam. Here is one of their classics...
All were good though I prefer the Who’s later stuff around Who’s Next was their peak for me. The Kinks are probably my favourite band after the Jam. I don’t see either as a pure Mod band like the Small Faces were.
Who's Next was a quality album, definitely one of their finest although I don't think it's as good as Quadrophenia which was phenomenal.
Would it be contentious to throw The Yardbirds into the mix? 'Shapes of Things' being an all-time fav.
Is it wrong to admit that I made great effort to follow The Gents all over South and West York’s in the early 80’s - mainly playing covers but did a bit of their own stuff.
I've seen The Gents a few times. First time in Harrogate back in '85 or '86, the last time in Birdwell this year. I love seeing them live. How it all began still sounds great all these years later.
