Im confused - I thought that it had to be U21 players and the reason was to give potential future internationals some competitive games

No idea how a 37 year old former international is allowed to play

Bit daft, but it's within the rules. They can have 2 older players.

"7.8 Each Invited Club must ensure that in each Match:

7.8.1 at least six of the starting eleven players named on the Team Sheet are players who were aged under 21 as at the 30th June in the year in which the Season concerned commenced; and

7.8.2 no more than two players who:

    (i) are aged 21 or over; and

(ii) have made 40 or more appearances in a First Team Fixture (either in the starting elven or as a playing substitute)

in each case as at the 30th June in the year in which the Season concerned, shall be named on the Team Sheet."

Also in the rules is this one:

"6.5 The final shall be played at a neutral venue determined by the League."

Doesn't specifically mention Wembley, so if two U21 sides got to the final, do you think they'd play it somewhere else?

What about the new Tottenham stadium? Especially if it's not yet finished by then.

This is the exact reason this competition needs killing in its current format. If we tolerate this what’s next. B teams. Thats what the big premier league sides want.

Bloody hell, that means if I've read it right, man city could play 5 players over 21, provided they haven't played more than 40 games. That'll be 70% of the playing staff then. ( Percentage just a guess by the way.)

It didn't help them though did it. Still got beaten by the mighty Macclesfield.

If Spurs U21s get to the final *and* their new stadium isn't finished, does that rule out Wembley as a venue for the final?

Any event that has a different set of rules for each team playing against each other should never be classified as a ‘competition’

Technically I'd say it would, but I reckon the FA would find some way round it if they wanted to.
