Leaving aside the USA for a moment and looking just at our own government in the last 2 days 2 different stories have caught my attention 1. Esther McVey claimed that several charities including MIND had " recognised and welcomed changes to #UniversalCredit" This as Mind was quick to point out is totally untrue and Mind has been a consistent critic and campainer against Universal Credit as it believes many of the least able to cope people will suffer. So either she is lying on purpose or isnt up to the job 2. Brexit Secretary Dominic Raab admits he 'did not quite understand' UK's reliance on Dover trade route This is beyond parody! the guy now allegedly leading our brexit negotiations doesnt have a clue how our trade with Europe works - he is making David Davies look competent and thats a feat in itself. I genuinely cant decide which I have the most contempt for
Not only has she said that about the charities (including Mind), but all charities involved with Universal Credit have had to sign NDAs so they don't criticize McVey. There should be a method to remove MPs that are found to be lying to Parliament (and bar from future roles), and government ministers should face criminal prosecution if they ignore warnings and proceed with policies that lead to injury or death (just like company directors are now).
That reminds me of another story this week - that the company investigating Grendfell had to sign a contract that prevented them from saying anything critical of or embarrasing to the government or government policy. Its just so wrong its not even funny
The lying politician is much more to be feared than the thicko. The thick politician is quickly shown to be an idiot and will not be in position for long. The liar might not be found out until long after the damage has been done.
Tony Blair was the best politician in my lifetime. His record proves that. But anyway - I’ve been thinking. And I’ve been thinking about Trump. My theory is this. Everybody over the last few years has been sick of hearing about politicians doing and saying things that they shouldn’t have eg expenses scandal here, Hilary Clinton palaver in the US. All what Trump is doing is extending that a bit further. He’s clearly lying to the general public and he knows he’ll get away with it because of the recent history of other lying politicians. So Trump is taking advantage of this era of doubt regarding politicians.
Diane Abbott frightens me rigid thick as a submarines window and allowed to carry on in front line labour duties
It's an age of presentation and perception through soundbites and words, not through actions and effect. Esther McVey and Tracy Brabin are prime examples. Symbolic of the societal shift where people have less patience, less attention span, social media bubbles and people do less thinking, leaving technology to do the heavy lifting. You look at any potential cabinet minister, and the equivalent shadows, and it's frightening. Perhaps we've never faced such significant challenges, to be tackled by such inept lightweight clueless peacocks.
She’s booked to appear on question time as well... They’ve also invited Jordan Peterson. It might be worth watching for once.
That's why she obtained 75% of the votes of the constituency that she represents - her majority increased by 11,000 at the last election
