just done brilliant end of match interview on sky. Full of confidence and also not fidgeting to get off like many players do on these interviews. Best I’ve heard from him
I thought he had an excellent match, but one thing that riles me is that every time he plays ,the commentators seem to pick up every slight error he makes , its as if they cannot wait to jump on him , yet City have only conceded 3 goals in 10 matches so our John must be doing something right , the lad is a class act .
Well how can he be any good - he came through Barnsley's academy - if he had been a better youngster he would have come through Chelsea Man Utd or at worst a club like Sheffield United. Or possibly its because he is a ball playing centre half instead of a no nonsense stopper in the John Terry mold Maybe I notice it more because I have more of an interest in his carrer but he does seem to be unfairly singled out for criticism by some of the pundits. Shearer seems the worst but he isnt alone
I agree with you & its clear to me that the pundits prefer to big up Maguire, who is a good player but makes far more mistakes than Stones ,but the commentators give him a free ride , it might be because of his cavalier approach but Stones is light years in front of him as a footballer .
To be be fair to Gary Neville, who isn’t my favourite commentator, he was championing John’s cause last night. Reckoned he was the senior partner between him and Laporte
Guadiola is no fool, he knows full well how good John Stones is. No doubt he's telling him daily "listen to me, not the pundits".
