he did ... but they were not exactly the genres I am on about..... I suppose "The Birds" and "Psycho" could be included , but I am not sure about his other stuff.... but I do like his works massively.... and I loved the way he put his 'signature' on all his films by putting a cameo appearance in at some stage of the game.
and he was arguably the master of suspense movies..... did you see "The Rope" all in one apartment if I recall... was great.
two great films mate... whatever a bit more on the suspense side.... (a bit like Psycho) but a true great film among films.... very creepy.... Witch finder ... a classic.... Vincent Price... a real god of the genre
'War of the Worlds' 1953 (The remake with Tom Cruise was pretty good IMO) AND 1951 'The Day the Earth Stood Still'. (the remake with Keanu Reeves was pants) ....Because they were the exact opposite in their basic premise re alien contact with Earth.. Destructive conquerers/colonisers vs benevolent 'policemen' . Stephen Hawking stated he was bothered that the former would be a distinct possibility if intelligent life was ever to pick up on our signals into space and follow up on them. 'The Birds' ... great idea but the end was abysmal...... and then they went home!! One film I am surprised , given CGI etc nowadays has not been remade (with a proper ending) although the ZOO series where animals turn on humans follows the same theme.
I know I am being pedantic... wasn't it just called 'Rope'? Good film but more of a psychological thriller than Horror or Sci-fi. Good film though and an original idea.
I can never understand why a true version of W.O.T.W was never made based in England where HG Welles wrote it for. I have been to see the live musical version twice done by Jeff Wayne.... its AWESOME... I am sure a film could be done in co-operation with Jeff ... I think it would be a blockbuster.
Sarcasm alert...'cos we all know Good 'ol US of A is the greatest most amazing country on the planet and aliens would go there first as it is the prime target for all alien invaders and it has the most powerful highly trained!!?? military force on the planet! In all seriousness. Hollywood even rewrites historical events to make them American 'centric' ( U571 - Americans capture the Enigma machine with cipher keys from a U-boat but in reality it was actually captured by HMS Bulldog (Royal Navy)) so you can hardly expect them to base fictional heroic tails in its original country when America can be the 'shining light' and the saviour of the world!
Suppose it depends on your views on Keanu Reeves. The original Matrix was good but as far as his other stuff concerns..you can apply that famous quote Dorothy Parker applied to Katherine Hepburn .. "(he) runs the whole gamut of emotions from A to B."
