football is our national sport, the nation should be able to watch its national team without to have to buy a sky dish..... and that goes for all the home nations. Wales get around it by being allowed to broadcast but only with a Welsh commentary. I do not know if the Scots and the Irish get this option as they have the Gaelic language. But TBH the sports minister should put a spoke in their wheel once and for all.
The footballing authorities who say yes to the deal could always say no. But it wont happen because it brings in money to the F A.
Think you're directing your anger at the wrong people. FA allowed it to happen, Sky aren't going to turn their nose up at it are they?
Killing sport, test matches not on so kids losing interest in cricket now they try to monopolise the England football team.
When was the last time competitive league footy was on terrestrial TV? Or England tests for that matter? To my knowledge there has been no significant decline in kids playing football? I don't like what Sky stand for, don't get me wrong, but I don't think they are to blame.
As you've started the debate, let's put a counter view. I've followed BFC since 1968, in which time I've seen time after time that we sell our best players. I've enjoyed successful periods like the 1968 promotion, the Alan Clarke/Norman Hunter revolution, the Daydream Believers unbelievable era and promotion to and competing in the Premier League, the 2006 playoff final promotion, and the Rock Bottom to Heckingbottom season. But always our best players are sold. Howard, Barraclough, Otulakowski, Tiler, Currie, Hirst, Ward, Hignett, and latterly, Winnall, Hourihane, Bree, Mawson, Roberts, Watkins, Scowan, Yiadom. Last season's relegation was utterly self-inflicted and enough to make a lifelong follower grow tired. In July, Virgin offered me Sky Sports for £22 a month, as against the usual £31. For that I can watch Premier League, Championship and League One football, as well as the five-test England v India series and also F1. Okay, there's a comparison to be made about live sport v telly viewing, but given that all members of my household can watch these events, the cost per participator per viewing hour ratio looks a good bet as set against £25 for me alone to watch Barnsley play Gillingham or Walsall. Football needs to wake up fast to these comparisons. Sky Sports is not a charity, but to my mind it has an attractive offering.
Good post orsen but the fact remains that a lot of people are disenfranchised from watching either live football OR Sky sports due to the costs involved. The bottom line is we are allowing Sky and high level sportsmen take obscene amounts of money out of the game at our own expense.
Take your point Churts, but anyone who can afford to go down to Oakwell can afford Sky Sports. It's just a question of what value you place on watching live v watching from your front room? Tell you what though, you never have trouble getting served in our lounge!
Can't get Sky here anyway orsen. I do, however, have access to hours and hours of GAA football, hurling and flippin camogie!
You'd think. But there doesn't seem to be a lot of racing on tv. I want to go to Killarney races next year. Not a big race goer but it's supposed to be the most picturesque track in Ireland.
Hate Sky with a passion even if it means 'cutting my nose of to spite my face' re lack of F1 for the next few years at the end of this season. I will never subscribe to a business model that charges the customer to view AND rakes in huge revenue by bombarding same customer with endless advertising breaks. Also I detest the fact that people threatening to leave suddenly find the monthly subscription slashed proving the margins they work to at full cost are excessive. Quote a reasonable price and stick to it. It should be EITHER FTA like terrestrial commercial stations OR subscription like BBC. As it stands BBC and ITV etc have no chance of competing against SKY when bidding for Sports event coverage. Channel 8 in Italy is Sky's FTA channel and for this season only they are showing full highlights of F1(in SD only). During the programme you are absolutely bombarded with commercial breaks, mostly - surprise, surprise - promoting SKY F1 channel and SKY movies boasting 150 NEW films a week which isn't true according to a friend who has SKY as they simply cycle many existing films round and round. SKY? Pah! I'd rather eat my own liver!!
I've just got all 8 Sky Sports HD channels for £15 p/m fixed for 3 years (18 month contract). Bargain!
It’s like saying you don’t like computers. Argument years old - the horse has bolted. If test cricket, premier league and Champions League were all on the BBC then the licence fee would be astronomical. Don’t think those that don’t like sport would be too happy.
Don't like to advertise but I get all Sky sports plus loads of BEin Sports plus BT sport plus 15 different countries TV plus all UK TV full HD and loads more. Also latest films All you need is a 1.5 MB internet connection. No contract, you can do 1 month, 3 or 6 months or a year, no VPN required £110 per year if a year and £18 for just a month to try it. Or you can try for 3 days free but football disabled Best thing I've ever done, end of season I don't bother with until start of next one
All they are doing is perpetuating ridiculous wages in the Premiership with the knock on causing financial hardship to lower leagues. Don’t think the fans of these clubs will be happy if they go bust either!
