Their fans celebrating a last minute winner Vs nine men. Celebrating like they'd won the Champions League. Invading the pitch. Never bought into the idea that their fans are "salt of the earth/ best fans/ most knowledgeable" or any of the other platitudes given to them.
Michael Owen the rat. Good hearing about how Fjørtoft was arguing with Ince in the tunnel after and how he was confused as to why all the other players weren’t arguing with the Liverpool ones over the injustice. You could feel the passion in his words.
Difficult to take at the time, but anyone who thinks we wouldn't have done exactly the same wants their bumps felt.
It was a diabolical refereeing performance. You can't blame Liverpool fans for celebrating a win. I had a bunch of Liverpool mates at the match & they admitted we were robbed. We were extremely lucky to come away with 3 points from Anfield that year. Luck & an out of body performance from Lars Leese.
I've always disliked Liverpool. It goes back to the 70s and 80s when just about every kid on our estate had a Liverpool kit. Even as a young lad I always got the vibe that the tv and press wanted them to do well. Only time I did was the European final when they came from 3 down to win.
The bigger the club, the more idiots they have (millwall) being the exception). I think you'll find that The worst 2 behaved sets of fans in the country are Liverpool and Manchester United.
I'd argue Celtic and Rangers for the country For England, I'd agree with you, with the possible exception of Chelsea.
I made it to the half way line and dropped to the floor like Christ carrying the cross. It was fecking Bromsgrove, l should have got a grip.
Can't stand em. The whole club has an attitude where they think that they somehow transcend the rest of football and deserve to be revered. I love seeing them fail - the year with Gerrard's slip and the capitulation at Palace was absolutely glorious.
The whole match is available to watch on YouTube. There's Barnsley fans invading the pitch and running to the halfway line even at 1-1! Although I don't blame them, thats the most packed away end I've ever seen, can't have been comfortable. The sheer unbridled joy at going 2-1 up is amazing, I imagine nowadays I'd just be relieved more than anything else against a non league side.
Salt of the earth !!! Yer joking. Liverpool and Everton have notoriously bad fans. Here’s a list of others I have encountered from the hay days in the 70s and 80s. The 4 London clubs. Spurs Chelsea Millwall And especially West Ham - these are worst of the worst. Portsmouth Stoke North East 3 Middlesbrough Sunderland Newcastle Cardiff Birmingham Sheff United Notts Forest Leicester Wolves Man City Man United and Leeds were different in that they had thousands of young fans that were there to be a nuisance and smash things up.
That's exactly what they've become. Not really a threat for the title because they comically slip up against teams they should beat, but they raise their game against, and take points from the real contenders. The Crystal Palace game a few years back was brilliant, especially seeing biters face.
