Bob Knobhardcastle signed 29th February 1919. Injured falling up the stairs looking for ‘2 bites of cellar door and a bite o’sneck’. Broke down in training on his return in 1921 having developed a cocaine habit which resulted in pioneering nose replacement therapy. Returning like a new man in late 1924 he got a split nail in the reserves v Melchester Rovers. Finally making his debut v Real Madrid in the 1930 Champions League final he lasted 11 minutes before losing both legs as a seagull swooped down and savaged him. This led to his early retirement where he lived out his days as a publican/ porn star.
That's my Grandad you're talking about!!...a family hero, could pull two pints while pulling the barmaid....and carry on a conversation about politics,
I thought this was a wind up, but just looked in my 'Whose Who Of Barnsley' and he's in, Robert Ernest Knobhardcastle. Legend, with no Leg-ends.
You sure about the publican bit jimmy. Thought he went on to be an actor/porn star. Well hung if I remember.
I'd say Steve Davies. Mad Mel bought him in the summer of 1991. He was a fantastic player, with us 7 years, but only made just over 100 appearances. We've bought players injured who never really got over their injuries but Steve just kept getting injured over and over again.
It was one long injury from start to finnish , we never saw him , at least with McCord we got fleeting glimpses lol
It’s why he kept getting injured. He kept tripping over his fandangle. But yes he went on to be landlord at the Dockers Fists in Hull for several years before having his own TVSeries ‘Keeping Up with the Knobhardcastles’.
He was excellent when we had him on loan (from Derby I think) but always seemed to be on the treatment table after he signed a permanent deal. I remember an issue of South Riding which had a brilliant piece about Brian and his unfortunate injuries...
