Hopefully the crowd will be a big fat zero so to help along the death of the competition.

Because this has kid sides allowed in it and drag it out with a group stage.

Horrible inclusion of U23 teams from "big" clubs. It's an insult. "Our kids are better than your pros".

Don't understand the need for a league system. There's 64 clubs entered. We all have to play 3 times to reduce that number by half. Could have been done just as easily with one knockout match. There's no money to be made from the early rounds of this competition, it often costs clubs to stage them the attendances are so poor. It's just extra games where your players can get injured.
And supposed bigger clubs entering a junior team is just patronising.

I'd have gone if it had been like the 2015/16 competition but not in its current 'suck up to the greed league' configuration.

When it gets to that stage it's time to jack it in.

The old format was fine. It's was the cup for the bottom two divisions. Their only realistic chance of winning a trophy.

The premier league gets enough toffee without diluting this trophy.

If the premier league clubs want their young players to have competitive game time, they should stick them in their first teams rather than bringing in countless foreign mercenaries, in fact I bet a good portion of the u23s aren't home grown.

They'd have been better involving clubs from the national league, or better still, leaving it as it was. Wasn't broken, didn't need fixing.

Thats the biggest problem these players who are sat in the u23's at premier league clubs would be better off playing for a teams in league one and two and if they are good enough moving up the leagues, making some money for the clubs as they go. Instead Premier league teams have dozens of players who will never get near the first team.

I remember many years ago that there was a weekly match where "reserve" team players/promising juniors used to be able to compete against first Division/premier league side reserves/promising juniors. The Central League. Weekly football, decent standard.

I know it'll never happen again, but I'm convinced it'd benefit the bigger sides too, by giving their first team squad players, as well as those not getting regular games, a chance to play a competitive match every week.

I've seen Bryan Robson, Ian Rush, John Aldridge, Paul Gascoigne (in his Newcastle days) playing at Oakwell in a Wednesday night.

The FL Trophy could then be a simple competition for the lower two divisions, as it was originally meant to be.

The competition needs to fail, otherwise it will tempt them to introduce B teams into the Football League, like they do in Spain. Italy are also going down the same route.

Agreed. It's a total farce (although I'm considering going to Oldham)

They are stockpiling all the best young players mate. Most of them end up getting released and go down the divisions. It's like the old route in reverse.

If ticket stubs don't count as an away allocation critea when bieng in the category for away matches (two away match ticket allocation through box office)for future matches where do we stand with this one regarding allocation priorities .
Basically think this game doesn't count.
