We'd have had sold anyone from the back 4, anyone from the midfield quartet. If Bradshaw hadn't have gone, he would have had a drop in effort, seen his contract out and gone for free. Good business in my eyes, BUT, we need a replacement before Saturday!
I agree in principle, but, if the player doesn't want to be here, he's out of contract in the summer, then a decision that is best for the club has to be made.
If my auntie had wheels she’d be a bike. It’s all a game of Ifs until we actually sign a replacement then Bradshaw leaving leaves us perilously short in attacking options.
you do realise we too can broker deals for new players. This way of loaning with an agreement in price for the next window is available to us too. Nine days to go till the loan window shuts.... wait and see.
If we get someone in then it's not really a massive blow in my eyes. Just the timing is very poor. More I think about less worried I am. The lad only averages about 1 in 4 for us.
As I see it there are two issues here, primarily that we get an adequate replacement in and secondary to that is whether they have come up with our asking price. My gut feeling is that they have, otherwise it would have happened before the official window closed.
Hence why I said “until we sign a replacement” but that part was surprisingly missed out of the quotation
Selling 1 of your 2 experienced forwards when the window is shut and you can’t get a replacement in is daft.
I know I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer. But if the transfer window is shut, then no one can be sold to anyone. However, as the loan window is open until a week on Friday, this allows a loan deal to be done with a view to making it permanent in January and if Millwall can do it with Tom Bradshaw, then surely Barnsley can do it with players, too? Or are people just following their agenda against the club when it suits (ie. commenting on this potential deal in a negative way, whilst being noticeable by their absence after our victories and great start to the league season)?
I don’t have any agenda and certainly thoroughly enjoyed last night. If Bradshaw wanted to go we should have moved him on in the summer which would have given us the chance to replace him. It’s difficult to see a rival selling loaning us one of their star players at this point in the season. It’s certainly feasible we have a loan of a young promising forward from further up the food chain lined up. If that succeeds they are unlikely to sell him to us (Fletcher / McBurnie) or they be less than useful (Ugbo). A loan from abroad is certainly a possibility given our set up. Even the kindest examination wouldn’t see it as a good example of forward planning.
Not all clubs are as daft as ours but it’s all the fun of being a Barnsley fan. We can certainly sign someone from a prem teams U23 team seems quite likely we will. We could certainly pick up someone from abroad on a loan to buy. Can we realistically sign an experienced championship international striker with. Very good goalscoring record in L1 I’m not so sure.
Just to clarify one thing, though. I don't believe you have an agenda against the club. If I've given you that impression, then I apologise. Others, yes. You? No.
We could and I hope we do. Eventually we certainly will I have no qualms about us flogging Bradshaw. He seems effective in the system we play and has a good record in this league but if his heart isn’t in it his heart in it then it’s fair enough. We should just have sorted it out earlier. Doing it now is a gamble. If we get someone n who can’t do the job and we miss promotion it’s a 6 million quid mistakes but I guess our current owners are shrewd operators so we will see.
The only reason I can think of is that the circumstances have changed (ie. Millwall have now met our asking price) and we've also laid the groundwork for a potential replacement. Personally, I've always liked Bradshaw and will be disappointed were he to leave.
