Didn't catch the final score until 6.30pm as we were travelling home from holiday in Dorset. Visited Tyneham Village before heading North. If anyone goes down that way, I'd recommend it, a village frozen in time since Dec 1943 when the residents were given a months notice to leave by Churchill, with the MoD taking the village for D-Day planning and training, and broken promises about them returning.

Anyway, proper stuff - A 4-0 win feels wonderful irrespective of the division or opposition. A great start for the coaching staff and for the players, just what they needed for confidence after last season. Hopefully something to build on, and take it from there. But cannot ask for anything more than that.

How did the pressing game go in the heat? On paper it looks like it was a 90 minute performance going by the goal times.

A great turn out too, just shy of 13,000, so it sounds like it was a good day all round. Let's stay behind them. COYR

We were at them from the start, going in hard and fast at every opportunity. They just couldn't handle us and it ought to have been 4-0 by half time. The pressure dipped a bit for the first twenty minutes or so of the second half which was not surprising on such a hot day, but we soon got back into them and two more goals was the minimum we deserved. They could have had one (great save from Davies) but they deserved nothing.

A thoroughly professional performance with good stuff all over the park. Makes no odds to me who we are playing. Seeing us win 4-0 is just fantastic.

PS your comment about Tyneham reminded me of Imber on Salisbury Plain. I lived not far from there during the seventies and eighties but never got the chance to visit as opening times were limited. It was also a ghost village, where inhabitants were forced out by the MOD so that soldiers could practice house to house fighting. Sad for the generations who lived in these places and their descendants who were evicted.

Cheers for the match summary, can't wait to see it for real. I've posted before about good memories and excitement of watching us at this level (where it all started for me in 1980). Be great for us to follow up the great start but I'm genuinely looking forward to whatever the season brings.

Sounds like the MoD directives affected a fair chunk of the southern area. My only direct link with the forces was my father in law who was based at Bovington (among others, and we visited the tank museum, another good day out) but I find a lot of the museum and history of it all very powerful stuff.

I spent 10 of my 24 years in the RAF in Army territory (Old Sarum, Upavon, Boscombe Down, all close to Salisbury) so had quite a lot of contact with that side of the MOD which was a good education not enjoyed by most "blue jobs". I'm not sure how much of the Plain is taken up these days but back then huge chunks of land were set aside for tank and infantry manoeuvres. Warminster, in particular, had a considerable area that was used for live firing exercises and firepower demonstrations. I was privileged to attend a couple of the demos which involved infantry, artillery and RAF hard ware with bullets, missiles, shells and bombs raining down on various targets. Better than any fireworks display!

Interesting about Tyneham. Never knew that. That now might be on the bucket list.
And btw Churchill was a c unt.
Great start to the new season. How many were complaining about the lack of new players. Maybe we just did not need anyone. Feeling very proud of our team tonight.
