they arnt entirely down to them scoff,i know exactly what powers they have, the problem they have is that if they start restricting migrants from the eu then the eu would be likely to hit us back,ie,the british government darnt upset the apple cart..my source for this was a ex barnsley labour mp.
You were misled then - although that is not surprising given the ignorance about the EU on display at all levels of the UK government. The UK government might not be able to stop people coming, but they can absolutely stop people staying. If an EU citizen is unable to support themselves after 3 months then we have the right to remove them (home, job, etc), again if they commit criminal offences or don't have adequate health insurance. Read the Citizens Charter 2004. Its in black and white. You go to France, Belgium, Spain, etc and you will find those rules in operation there. The big problem the government have is that they don't track who comes in and leaves, so there is no way to know who is working, not working, or not in the country. And the only way they can do that effectively is to issue ID cards. That is something they can't force on to one section of the population without forcing on all sections of the population. And the population, by and large, are very against ID cards.
How can they not track eu citizens,if they are here legally then their passports are show on entry and on leaving and if they are working legally then their RTI payroll is submitted every payday so how can they not be tracked.Ive just read online that in 2017 5400 eu citizens were deported, the previous year 3500 and 2400 or so the year before that . I’m on my phone and don’t have a clue how to post links but those were home office figures being attacked by a charity these we deported because they were unable to support themselves
Given that a resounding 64% of this forum are in favour of remain can we declare the argument on here won, the vote to leave a mistake and, as it seems is the opinion of brexiteers, never hold any further debate or poll on the subject?
Ive changed my mind....I thought it would be a disaster for our country...now I think it will be a TOTAL disaster.
Why is that ? Don’t understand the argument that locals couldn’t compete in this scenario - surely it would be same rates of pay and so on, and I suspect employers would prefer to employ some one native by and large?
You know why don’t ya? Because in the privacy of the polling booth their vote reflected how they really felt, they weren’t afraid of the bbs holier than thou team lol
Roaming charges isn’t the champion of the remain argument - I suspect economic uncertainty is probably the main driver - it certainly is for me. We will go into recession in the next year because of brexit, The bbs poll was anonymous mate, so that argument can be instantly discarded..
Not necessarily. Perhaps those who moved away are more likely to be on the BBS to get news of their team/town. People who moved away are more likely to be better educated and as a result, more likely to vote Remain (many are economic migrants and associate more with the economic migrants from the EU). Maybe, most of those supporting Remain on here are no longer in the Barnsley area.
Better educated... this is why the debate is so ridiculous. Neither side can debate it without a slanging match. Whichever way you voted your **** still stinks mate. You are no better or worse, you have a different opinion.
Be fair. What was said by @Scoff was ‘better educated’ - not ‘knew better’ or even ‘more intelligent’. It has been shown that the higher the level of education a person had, the likelier they were to have voted remain. That is a fact, as is the average age of the leave voter being significantly higher than a remain voter. Level of education actually had a bigger level of correlation with the vote than any other factor including age, sex and even ethnicity. This is easily found information from various sources and outlets. No source seems to dispute it either.
It’s the eu’ job and is in their best interests to make it as hard as possible to leave. That way they may put Greece, Spain and Portugal off following suit very shortly. My view is that this process is fairly irrelevant, whether you voted remain or leave the eu will be defunct in 20 years anyway. It will be like a washed up has been clutching a 4 litre vat of white lightning in spuggy Park. Short term there are a hundred different reasons to leave and a hundred different reasons to remain depending on your life’s circumstances and experiences. Everyone in a position of influence is lying to you or scaremongering and the same people have their own agendas for their own gain. None of which have yours or my interests at heart, how can they? You and I are different, have different needs, different experience and different beliefs about the best way to do things.
Good post that although my reason for remain was needless economic uncertainty caused by brexit. I think I’ve been proved right in that regard. Although the real proof will be 2019 to 2022
We have some large food factories round where I live and they clearly prefer to use migrant workforce, as an example one of them held a group interview with 20 people in the room, 19 were Polish, one was English and the interviews were held in Polish, they get paid the same as locals but the reason why is simple, they bully and mistreat the migrants who just accept it, whereas locals wouldn’t.
