    Ive wondered that as well in some of the recent friendlies, although some might prefer to call it a 4-2-2-2 (if there is such a thing!).
    Apart from McCarthy instead of Carvery, I think that might be close to our opening day line up v Oxford.

    Looks a strong side that but it really does highlight for me (not that it really needed highlighting) that we need a ball winning central midfielder in.

    I’m assuming this will be a premier league loan player.

    Wonder what Joe Williams is up to. He’s the kind of player, if the board want to speculate to accumulate, could come in for £1m(ish), help us get promoted, and be well worth 5 times that in a year or two.

    Along similar lines, would we/should we make Aston Villa an offer for Gardner ?. Over the whole season I rated Williams more but it was worryingly obvious to everybody that they shouldn't have been played together, especially at home. But when Gardner got more of a free run on his own, he really improved.

    I liked Gardner, more so in the latter part of the loan deal, but I feel his wages would be an issue. I would’ve thought Joe Williams’ wage would be a fair bit lower (only me guessing).

    That might happen actually, depending on the knock that Fryers picked up recently.

    As for the hunt for a Gardner/Williams type player, do we all reckon it will be another half or full season loan from the higher leagues ?.
