Two innings blown away yesterday and now Yorkshire have started disastrously on Day 2

21 for 3 with our star test captains gone already. Root 3 and Williamson follows his first ball duck yesterday with just 1 today. Crazy cricket going on there and I would be surprised if the game goes beyond two days.

Yet again the idea of bringing in the absent test players is just not working for Yorkshire. Bairstow is in now and a nice steady hundred will go down well.

Brook is doing great too. Didn't get many runs yesterday but killed the first hour of the match, seeing off Anderson which should have made it easier for when the hat trick lads came in.

Today he's chipping in and helping Bairstow out too. With him, Tattersall and Coad the future is bright if the coaching can improve.

Trouble is that there are the next three potential England players coming through so enjoying them while we have them

We need them too. Plunkett rumoured for Surrey to play the red ball cricket we aren't giving him. Rashid supposedly wanting to join his mate Ali at Worc. Lees days probably numbered as at his age he is probably wanting regular first team cricket. We could probably do with a few more coming through in the next 12 months. Coad can't be far off England already as a back up bowler, so when Anderson/Broad retire he's hopefully in a position to step up to the new ball position.

I'm not as well up on cricket as some of you obviously are but isn't it self defeating to have or want many of your county players to be playing for England?
With the likes of Root, Bairstow, Rashid etc out of the county side for such long periods it's as though they might as well not belong to Yorkshire.
My very simplistic view on things.

    Very disruptive.

We have certain players who only play one day cricket and others who play only county cricket plus the England selected players plus the overseas players.

    Not ideal.

We have guys who play all three forms for their country. Others that play one or two. Rashid won't play four days. Williamson is our second overseas player of the season and for most of the season you can have around half your team missing. So you produce new stars and then they get noticed for England. Counties like Lancashire and Hampshire stopped caring about the national side and now fill their squads with foreign players, so they know they won't be missing.

Nobody really WANTS so many players unavailable for various reasons but that’s how it is. It’s not unusual to see four or five Yorkshire players in the same England side and that’s not fair on the county.

With 18 first class counties to pick from it’s not right that one county should be weakened like this. Yorkshire somehow succeed in spite of England calls. It’s always going to be this way I suppose.

So long as the ECB allow teams like Hants to continually fill their side with kolpaks we'll be in this position.

All this filling teams with foreign test "stars" is a waste of time. I don't think it draws anyone through the gates and attendances continue to be dire.
In the meantime we're having to compete with half the second team playing.
Maybe they should try to exploit county pride and loyalty to reignite the game and insist all counties field full or three quarter quota teams with players born or raised in the county.
There'd be more churn as success would be more cyclical but at least you'd be cheering for your own.

Why wasn't Bairstow made available for the T20 game last Friday. May have won the game for us.. On fire in all formats.

I wondered that as well. We came so close to winning it but JB could have guaranteed it.

He's done well today. Victory not too far away I reckon but it's not a certainty until we get Buttler out.

Well well well. Bring the Test captain on and get him to lob a catch to the NZ Test captain. Crazy end to the day, but Root has a habit of taking important wickets like that.

Should be in the bag now.

Lancs are in effect 7 down as their captain Livingstone is injured.

Technically, they have three wickets left and need 129 to win.
    The Tykes can do it.

Super Rooty got Onions first ball with a beauty that was snaffled up by JB behind the stumps.

The win should be secured before lunch although the commentators have said this morning that Livingstone was seen in the nets this morning batting one-handed. I suppose he will come it at 11 if they are reasonably close to the target, but he would be stupid if he did. I'm sure the Yorkshire quicks would have no sympathy and get one up to him.

Good grief. Lancs need 121 to win and Livingstone is coming out at number eleven with a bandaged left arm. Could be interesting

Edit that: Jimmy Anderson couldn't manage to last the over so Livingstone didn't get to face. Fair play to him anyway for coming out. Would have loved to see what happened though.

Great win after Friday's crushing disappointment.

Joe Root did nothing with the bat but finished with four wickets for five runs off 7.4 overs. Amazing!
