For me league one is ideal ground to blood him further. I think Davies should be the backup and Walton given the nod.
Ha! But to be honest I kinda do like James Bailey he was good on the ball and could control the midfield. The defensive role was just so wrong for him.
Whatever your thoughts on LJ those tactics had us propping up the 3rd division before new signings and an entirely new system were quickly implemented after a meeting with Mr.Cryne.
Davies is a proven goalkeeper who for the most part has been terrific for Barnsley. Lets not forget at 26 years old he could still have another 10-14 years in him.
There was a period last season where he was so bad it was embarrassing for him and everyone else and I started to feel sorry for him.
He was OK if he'd got 10 seconds to think about it. I cite his subsequent career path, post Oakwell, as evidence of his ability: FC Pune City Ottawa Fury Carlisle United Yeovil Town Nuff said.
As I've said before 2 and half good seasons 1 bad season where the rest of the team was out of its depth so always gonna be tough. Maths tells you he's a good keeper
Maths doesn't apply well to football. Form and class are better indicators. So with Davies, it depends on his class, cos his form dipped. He didn't seem to me to be so good for so long to be class. Look at Joe Hart, and apply your logic to him. Perhaps your maths would give him the England shirt.
Not sure where you get your stats from mate. But the ones I've looked at show him playing for 5 seasons 13/14 being his first. 25 goals in 120 games of which I assume plenty as sub. ( no info on that) 7 seasons ago he would have only been 16. (Wkpdia) I honestly believe given the chance he'll tear this league apart. But I have been known to get it horribly wrong.
I think we’re ok up front as I see Thiam as a striker so that gives you Bradshaw, Moore, Thiam, Brown & Adebayjo (apologies for spelling). Defence is fine. McCarthy & Cavare at right back, 3 good centre backs in Lindsay, Jackson & Pinnock, left back not quite as good but prepared to see how Pinillos & Fryers fare at league on level. If we get injuries McCarthy can play all across the back 4 & young Smith could come in at centre back if he’s up to it. Midfields the problem, we’ve only got one midfielder who can do a job in front of the back four & that’s an inexperienced Bird who was in & out of the Yeovil side that only just stayed up from league 2 so that’s the first issue, we desperately need someone who can do a job in front of the back 4. Then we’ve got McGeehan, Mowatt, Potts & Moncur, they’re all attack minded but can you really fit more than one of them in the starting eleven as well as playing both Moore & Bradshaw, I can’t see it unless we go 3-5-2 but that doesn’t really make sense when you’ve got Isgrove & Hedges. I’d still probably sell at least one of them 4 to balance the squad out. No doubt Hedges & Isgrove are decent players but neither can stay fit. We need another winger who can ideally play both sides & then Mottley-Henry & Thiam as back up wide men behind them 3. I wouldn’t sign a keeper, Davies was superb in league one last time & if he gets his confidence back he is a decent keeper, if he doesn’t then Walton looks a good prospect. If you get to January & neither are performing then sign a new keeper.
