And i bet some don’t miss a game and spend over £1500 and 50 holiday hours a season, on supporting the club.
Because ever season we start behind the 8 ball and never learn. 10 players in last week of close season then we win 1 out of 8 in first 2 months but its ok cos they need time to 'gel'.
Yeah but don’t worry if the don’t gel this season, because they’ll be much better next year, when they’ve had a preseason with the club.
I would bet my house on the fact even if we don't sign a single player we'll win more than 1 of our first 8 games.
Yes cos we got relegated to lg 1 due to penny pinching and ineptness, oh and buying loadsa players a week before season started and not 'gelling' till February.
Here's a thought. Maybe we should tell our new owners to go away as we don't think their heart is in it. I'm sure those who don't like them have a far better alternative at their fingertips.
When we had to replace 16 players last close season , how would you have gone about it & how would you have " gelled " them all before the kick off last August ? I am always curious to how those who are cynical would go about things if they were in charge
Can I have a go at this one? I wouldn't have had a fire's ale of the assets in the months leading up to last close season. The problem was a self made one in my opinion.
You have not answered the question ? the comments were about signing players & taking till February for them to gell , I asked how he would have done things differently
We didn't have to bring in 16 players. We chose to bring in a lot as we went for a quantity over quality approach with the thinking being that only 1 in 3 would work out so we bought about 6 number 10s. I would have put effort into retaining some of the proven players as the money spent on the scattergun approach to signing several replacements will have largely negated the additional money needed to retain the proven and settled players. Case in point josh scowen. After that I would have known for a long time what areas needed strengthening. We sold our strike force in January so we should have been lining up targets since then. The moment the window opened we should have moved for the players we had targeted. We had cash in the bank and NEEDED to get in our targets, we had everything to lose by waiting. Get in the core of your squad before you start pre season training and you have a fighting chance. The last thing that I would have done is not brought in half a squad of loanees who only served to disrupt the progression of our own players. Those like ike ugbo and Joe Williams.
You think theyve done a good job so far. You think weve moved on. I dont. Trouble is folk think by actually looking at the facts and indeed the situation and questioning why we did it and why were still doing the same things that aint working is being negative and defeatist, i disagree, i think its being realistic and people should be held accountable for the ineptness we have seen for the last 18 months. I love the reds and are right behind em but it still doesent stop you questioning the the hell is going on at some of the decisions that have previously been made and currently being made. We look amatuerish, we always seem to do.
