I need to change the washer in my bath tap but can't get the knob off, anyone seen this type of tap and know how it's done?
Grab the ribbed ring, on the tap head, firmly, then unscrew the domed top which will then expose the screw to take the whole tap head off. Then you'll be able to take the cartridge out. Oh, and at risk of sounding patronising, turn your water off first.
The top of the tap should prise off revealing the nuts inside. Try (carefully ) levering it off with a Stanley blade just above the ridged bit (other brands are available ) Or what he said above
I took one of the taps to bits in my bath to replace the washer. Turned the water off and everything went well. A few weeks later I had the same problem in my other tap and I was feeling confident after my previous success so I whipped the top off the hot tap. Hadn't turned it off though had I. **** me never again! I couldn't even put it back together because it was too hot and had to run round the house turning all the taps on to drain the hot water tank while attacking my bathroom with towels to soak everything up
We've all had our fair share of DIY calamities, I'm sure. I certainly have. Particularly when I decided that electricians earn money for old rope so I'd do it myself... Finished up looking like Don King!!!
I'm just in the middle of changing my toilet siphon on a close coupled cistern. Ballache! Good job i got two more toilets in the house!
