For example let's look north and go get Kari Arnason from Vikingur Reykjavik. Big, strong, 6 ft 4, gets stuck in and is a experienced leader who will martial the defence. Or Paul Onuachu. A 23 goal a season striker in Denmark who is 6 ft 7. Quick, strong and great in the air Perhaps we can really pull off a great deal and bring in Kerim Mrabti the best young talent in the Swedish Allsvenskan. Like Hammill in his prime. An 8 goal season striker in the French Ligue 2 is not good enough. If Thiam had scored 25 by all means but that million pound deal was always going to be a disaster as was the case. Knasmullner a great acquisition with 12 goals & assists in half an Austrian season but we must play him. Cavare is a strong player but his injury record & temper worry me. Incoming attacking players must have outstanding goals and/or assist records and all arrivals must have an impressive career up to now.
Do you think any aspiring/promising overseas player would come to an English third tier team? Genuine question. I have my doubts.
Good call not aware of these players but looks like you know your stuff. Agree with needing the caliber of players mentioned with us lacking massively a leader la at season. Always thought of all the Eurioean leagues the nearest to English football is the German league. Wouldn't mind if a few German players came in they seem to settle in better
I doubt a German manager is going to go down the route of playing a big target man upfront . In that regard we do have keiffer Moore which is probably enough for me though I do have my concerns that Rotherham may come in for him with their new found 6million windfall .
That is a good question. I think being an English club is a big advantage because players know that if they impress with us it could be the best route to the Premier League and everyone across Europe grows up watching Man Utd etc.
Yes the German football league is probably the best quality in mainland Europe. Michael Hefele was at a third tier club before his move to Huddersfield.
I love the positivity @OnGoingCloud1887 but I would’ve been incredibly surprised if we managed to lure Mrabti to Oakwell as a Championship club let alone now we’re a League 1 outfit. Excellent player though, you’re spot on.
Usually don't agree with a lot of what you post but this is pretty spot on. Not heard of the first few you mentioned but I have heard good things about Mrabti so would be a good coup if we could get him. Were we linked to him during January or am I thinking of someone else? Think with the new connections Stendel could have, I would assume we may look into some Bundesliga 2 talent as there are some good bargains to be had there as well as in lower end of the Bundesliga too.
Absolutely correct that is why I said it would be pulling off a great deal. I'm sure he's on the radar of many across Europe but I reckon it would be worth an enquiry in case it is do-able.
Arnason is on the plane to Russia and he's actually played in South Yorkshire with Rotherham. Funny thing with Mrabti in January is I suggested his signing on twitter and before I knew it people were tweeting GG and posting threads on here! I agree I'm sure between Stendler, Winkler & the other guy they know some decent players in German football.
I want us to look at signing the Swedish Akinfenwa, the French Akinfenwa and the Austrian Akinfenwa. And I’m not sure we’ll beat Newcastle to Mrbati’s signature. They are a bit more of a pull than us.
I will keep an eye out for Arnason then during the games and see if he plays. Never knew he played for Rotherham let alone played over 100 games. I am sure the lower end Bundesliga and top end second division will be more than good enough for League 1/Championship and between those 3 must know a player or 2 over there. Ideally could start by getting a few wingers in as we are weak in that area at moment.
Pretty sure Arnason is 35 going on 36 and left the UK to go back home to finish his career. There’s a exactly no chance of us signing him, plus who we dropping out of the only position we have any quality and depth.
Look at Richard Wood with Rotherham. That kind of defender can really make the difference and he'd finally be a like for like replacement for Roberts. Actually he went to Sweden first and yes I'm sure that will be in his mind but by the sounds he really loved his time in our region.
Still who would we drop, Pinnock or Jackson, or even Lindsay of the bench for all his ability to kick the ball out from 4 yards is still a decent defender. Plus he’s only just signed for the team he played for as a lad so I doubt he’ll upsticks again just to come here at his age to play a part time role. Gotta say though the other two suggestions are very good and I think you make a good point about not just throwing money at any foreign player just cos he plays in a fancy league and he’s got an odd name, there’s some serious Scandinavian talent that very rarely gets pick up on cos the league isn’t that attractive.
