Daniel Stendel: "I am fully motivated and excited to get going." Club News After joining Barnsley on Wednesday, Head Coach Daniel Stendel is relishing the opportunity of implementing his ideology on his new team. Continue reading on the official site...
Sounds like a no-nonsense guy. And with a background in working with an academy, hopefully the broader vision of bringing youth players through to the first team will also start come to life at some point. Nach oben die Roten!
I'll keep my pragmatic hat on and judge over time patiently. The words are positive though, and if effort and actions follow words, and we do implement high tempo, high press attack based football that's taught through the structure with an emphasis on getting youth from academy to first team.... I don't think anyone would complain about that. I'm curious about how the squad he's inheriting will adapt to a very different style, we gave up on pressing under Heckingbottom and pretty much abandoned it under Morais. So the last football we played was highly static with minimal movement and energy. If the players can adapt and improve fitness and movement, fantastic... but I think it will take time and a fair bit of turnover. Fullbacks are crucial in overloading and for me, though no fullback really got a lengthy run, and last season it was a very weak area for us. If Cavare can temper his short fuse, he might be the best option currently with his athleticism. Interesting times. I really hope he can get us playing the style of football hes described.
All very positive so far but the real test will be when season starts. Hope they back in in window and allow him to bring in a few players he wants to help implement this pressing game he wants to use. And also hope he can use his friendship with the other managers he mentions to bring in a few players either on loan on permanent. Norwich, Hudds and annoyingly even the Fowls do have some good players that we could use to help us.
Very unusual that there's no video or audio clip anywhere, no interview with the local press. Is it that he can't speak English and this was done through an interpreter?
He’s from East Germany though so won’t have had the same exposure to English in school. One of the Chronicle journalists on twitter mentioned that he had been having English lessons recently!!
Anyone able to translate what the text on the Hannover 96 website says please.? http://96freunde.de/the-stendel-way-barnsley-feiert-stendels-96-spiele-mit-best-of-video/
While some English football fans were still wondering: who the f ... is Daniel Stendel? "Daniel Stendel is greeted enthusiastically elsewhere. FC Barnsley is obviously more than happy with his new signing. In order to present the largely unknown on the island Stendel presented the FC Barnsley a video with some Best Of scenes from Stendel's time at Hannover 96. Title: "The Stendel Way!". This almost reminds a bit of the initial euphoria Daniel Stendel has triggered in Hanover. Here again the legendary video after the 2-0 home win against Borussia Mönchengladbach in April 2016 (120-year celebration of Hannover 96) that every 96-fan must have seen: After his release at Hannover 96, Stendel visited Arsenal London to learn from Arsène Wenger. Meanwhile, Daniel Stendel has apparently also worked well on his English. Below are some excerpts from the first Stendel interview published on the Barnsley home page, along with a statement on Daniel Stendel
If anyone can supply to me a reason to be more optimistic about this team of Germans in charge, rather than the previous team of Portugese, then I would welcome receipt. Seems to me as though the Germans would have been available when Hecky left, so why did we not employ them then?
It seems to me that the new man has served his time and is ready to give it a good go, everyone needs a chance and you don't need a few goes first at management to become experienced enough to manage us in league 1. If he gets them organised, fit, motivated and they give it a good go then it should be enough. There are no guarantees no matter who you have in charge or how much you spend, look at Villa, Derby, Wednesday etc. I'm pleased and excited as usual and I know that you know that it's ******** what I've just said above but it's a nicer way to think over the summer than not having any reason to be optimistic for next season. No one knows he may click and it be great or it may be dire. Give it 10 games in and see if he starts talking in riddles and playing a 415 formation then I'm with you if he is a poor back up to Jose.
He needs time but these players need to step up to the plate, they massively under performed last year and even though they were far inferior in terms of quality it didnt excuse the lack of effort in some games. They threw in the towel and didnt want to work hard enough. Nobody knows if this guy is going to be any good but its imperative the players start earning their corn and work for the new management.
The bloke has played a load of games at a good level whilst also receiving positive reviews for managing afterwards. Surely he’ll be a better gamble than some recently retired ex pros from this country that some were clamouring for. I don’t know if it will work out but surely the club don’t deserve slagging off for his appointment before a ball has been kicked. By the same token, the new owners made a mistake with Morais but but we need to move on. A Simon Grayson may have got us promoted from this league but I think he would then have been immediately out of his depth in the championship. Likewise any of the younger lower league or the Scottish leagues fellows mentioned that have also never managed at championship level. It’s all a gamble and I for one am just going to ride the unpredictable bfc bus as I have done all these years.
