I completely agree mate, but I'd like to at least give some of our current players a go at it. Bring him back by all means, but to talk of him replacing current players based on him being good for us 2 years ago and the current crop not being good in the championship is all a bit premature. Some of these lads could get off to a flyer in league one just as Williams could come back and not be the same player. Football's a bit like that. Can prove us all wrong.
In my opinion his performances were better than bree and white. Bree was rated higher based on his pace which meant potential
Absolutely agree that we've got to back the current players and they could all turn out to be the next incarnation of Roberto Carlos. I think with the right management and coaching McCarthy could come good - he seems okay going forward but was too often easily beaten on the outside last season, that needs lots of work with the right coach. Just looks to my eyes though that Pinillos' best days are behind him and Fryers is so limited and one-footed that there isn't much to work with - bit ironic that some of the worst business done by Hecky and Clapham, two left backs, was on left backs! Hopefully Ben Williams will keep developing and come through to challenge at left back.
Big fan of George Williams. Was a very solid defender in League 1. I highly doubt he’ll climb much higher, as the step up to face championship attackers is massive. In the same way I’ll wait to see what our championship players do when they drop down to League 1. McCarthy was player of the year at his club in league 1. So hopefully we’ll see different levels from McCarthy, Cavare, Fryers and Pinillos when they’re playing against far inferior players, in a team that should be on the front foot far more than we were last year.
I would like to bring back an experienced left back who used to play for us & that is Scott Goldbourne , he is available having been given a free by Bristol City , I think he would be perfect for our current situation
You are totally wrong there Mr Cuckoo/Hemsworth , the one thing that Yiadom did not do is throw a tantrum , he was fully professional whilst seeing his contract out , he always gave his all & if others had played & contributed to the same level as him, we would still be in the championship.
What about the young left back we've got in out u23s, is it Ben Williams? I've read some promising things about him maybe he should be given a chance, can't be any worse than the full backs we've already got
The thing that surprises me about this board and many of our fans is the relentless belief that going backwards is a way forwards. I'm not saying Williams would be any good now or not but a lot has happened since. He did a decent stint last time but do we want to go back. Shouldn't we be looking for players who can get us out of the division with fresh challenges and points to prove. Shouldn't we be building a new team. I would hope we bring new players in who will add to the best of what we have and give us the best possible start to getting back out of this league. I'm not sure Williams fits that right now. Hecky didn't think he was worth and extra couple of hundred quid to keep him. I wouldn't see the defense as our biggest problem in the squad at this point in time. We have this heart ruling the head approach but I guess that's what us fans do.
I don’t think it’s heart ruling the head I just think it’s that there’s not many of us who watch much lower league football unless Barnsley are involved so it’s only natural to know more about a player that once played for us rather than a random full back from Exeter, Northampton, Rochdale etc.
George Williams was fantastic for us. But he also chose to leave instead of fighting for his place after being told he would be a squad player in the championship- and therefore offered a wage in line with what we pay our squad players (rightly or wrongly). Would I have him back? Absolutely.
Are you joking? Yiadom was nothing like the player from the season before. He didn't look one bit arsed at all and his performances were downright abject.
