Years ago whenever Barnsley or whoever was after a new manager they would announce a short list of candidates who were to be interviewed. Now a days its like the secret service. There doesn't seem to be any indication either by word of mouth or the betting patterns.I'm very patient regarding the outcome but a couple of tasters wouldn't go amiss.

I do not think we will get in a new manager/Head coach, till the end of the month at the earliest. I would hope they get one ASAP , in order for him to work with the retained guys and also have a hand in any new signings/loans. But realistically I see it being a drawn out 'Ass dragging' event as usual.

Did they? Can remember when Spackman was appointed he was ushered into the board room for an interview during a match along with Dave Jones.

That would be completely to the detriment of the club if we were to announce a shortlist. I’m not sure why anyone would want the club to prejudice itself in such a manner.

I must admit, old mate, I can't remember that ever being the case. What I DO remember, over the years, is the number of self appointed 'In The Know' supporters claiming certain individuals were going to take over the reigns and always getting it wrong. A few examples (when we were appointing a new gaffer during the close season), Billy Bremner was the odds on favourite to become our next manager in 1978, but we appointed Allan Clarke. In 1984, it was going to be Keith Burkinshaw and we gave the job to Bobby Collins. Then, in 1993, Gordon Strachan was going to be the successor to Mel Machin, but we gave it to Viv Anderson. In 2005 the job was Ronnie Moore's but we gave it to Andy Ritchie.
I try not to get my hopes up when we're in the market for a new manager/head coach for any particular individual, or type and it tends to serve me well enough.:D

The threads on here about rumours and betting odds concerning the next manager are more frequent and even less reliable than buses to Athersley.

Does it really matter? Us knowing won't make one bit of difference and wouldn't change their minds in any shape or farm - not now The Don aint here and he read on here that we should go for butcher lol

Just let em get on with it and they will announce in good time.

Just hope they learned some lessons from the last **** up

I have it on good authority (though I can't reveal my sauce) that our new boss will be either a man or a woman celebrating a birthday this year

To be fair , all the retained players will be on leave & will not be expected back until pre season training which is usually around late june , so even if we set a manager on tonight he will not be working with existing players for a while
