It's not about the money they bring in - a lot of which we will not see - it is about principles. If you are a lady and only care about money you would be a prostitute, if you are a man and only care about money you would be a drug dealer. People shouldn't stand for things because it's economically beneficial they should stand for things because its fair and right. You do things for money you can be influenced by money, you do things for yourself you cannot be influenced.
I don’t like or dislike them & didn’t waste a single second of one of the nicest days of the year watching a wedding between two people I don’t know. I will say one thing & that’s that I’d hate to be a Royal. There’s certainly plenty of perks but imagine not having the freedom to do what you want. Every place they go has to be checked beforehand, bodyguards with them constantly. Media following there every move. Weather’s been mint this weekend so I decided to go out with mates for afternoon & ended up drinking & having a laugh for hours. I’ll probably get to do the same next weekend. Neither Prince can do that. If I want to go on holiday then as long as I’ve got the money I can go where ever I want. If I get pissed & in a state the biggest worry I’ve got is a few mates filming me on snapchat, not millions seeing me all over Twitter, Facebook & newspapers. The luckiest people are probably kids of billionaires who aren’t famous. Imagine never having to work, having an unlimited supply of money & no pressure of anyone following you about. That’s the life.
Yes but he has worked a darn sight harder than the Royals do. I know Diplomatic and Royal Protection Squad officers who can confirm that.
Is that all royals then? The average person works 233 days a year based on minimum holidaydays, Princess Anne worked 195 days last year at the tender age of 67. Prince William clocked up 102 whilst also working 141 shifts as an air ambulance pilot
On the mark. Unless you're a believer in God passing down a divine right for one person to rule over people, then you should be against the monarchy, because its entire premise and monetary gain is based on that idea.
You're a forelock-tugging, servile simpleton in thrall to a family who wouldn't trouble themselves to piss in your face if it were ablaze. I think that was the general thrust of the argument, anyway.
Wow... This issue is pretty irrelevant in the grand scheme of things compared to the 100s that are truly significant and impacting upon the people's of this country. I'm struggling to understand why people feel the need to be so abusive, mind-boggling.
Some really good points ave been made in this thread. Personally, I'm very much 50/50. I like the fact we have a royal family who's lineage can be traced back hundreds of years, and still live by a certain protocol and tradition(in a country that feels like it is losing it's identity and traditions). I also like that they bring in **** loads of money to the economy. In this instance, I look at them the same as any other tourist attraction that needs money to be maintained. Also agree with what was said earlier that their "fame" and "privileged" life is a double edged sword. Sure, they get their every whim catered for, but in exchange for their privacy. I'm sure William and Harry love the fact their mother was killed just so some shitty tabloid could get a photo of her in a car, for example. But like I say, I am still 50/50. I feel they should pay for their own lives when not "working" or on official visits etc, after all, they have enough money. When on official state business, then they should be "paid" and their security costs covered. After all, even if we ****** em off and appointed a President, the state would still have to pay for their security etc...
Great read Royals 'no good for economy' campaigners claim https://www.republic.org.uk/what-we-do/news-and-updates/royals-no-good-economy-campaigners-claim
Interesting read, the report was a farce though full of inaccuracies, guess work and assumptions and some outright incorrect statements. But was well written piece.
It's a good read if you're a republican seeing as it's a completely biased and agenda led 'report' by republican's. I'm sure that there will be a site called www.royalist.org that tells all royalists what they want to hear too. #don't give a **** i prefer to dwell on matters that actually affect the lives of working class people on a daily basis: monarchy/republic 'aint one of them.
