What choice did she have? Would you really want to be travelling the world at 90 plus going through the same routines every visit ie shaking hands and trying to make conversation with people you have never met while listening to inane groups performing especially for you, and pretend to be interested? Not for me I want to choose my life. Some people on here are just full of crap, they call our system but don't offer a viable alternative, that is unless you want a dictator like Putin or Kim or a nutcase like Trump.
You're right. When I get up at half 6 on Monday morning for a hard week's work I'll thank my lucky stars that I'm not the queen.
At what point did the queen choose to become a member of the royal family though? Yep: never. I can't understand the vitriol being aimed towards people who never had a choice. If it was a choice then fair enough, privileged whatevers, but she has never been a 'free agent'.
If she didn't want to do it she was free to abdicate. Let's not pretend that a life of luxury and being waited on hand and foot is some sort of burden.
She could have abdicated but she would still be a member of the royal family. Havn't suggested having 90% + of your life being dictated to is some sort of burden either just saying it's odd to spout such vitriol at people who did not have a choice.
I've not spouted any vitriol at her personally, I've just said she lives an incredibly privileged life and I think the monarchy should be abolished. I think she does a pretty good job in the role, but I think the role shouldn't exist and isn't a burden.
Was speaking in general terms regarding the vitriol. I have no issue with the argument you have put forward, it's fair enough.
I don't have a problem with the royals I don't care either way. But watching two people getting married who I've never met is not for me. If they were getting married in my back garden I'd close my blinds.
Blithely ignoring all the other interviews with folk that enjoyed it, like the ones saying all the normal folks there. Anyway crack on don’t want to lose your err momentum
I’m not sure, but I reckon houses, servents, yachts, butlers and any number of other privileges have softened the blow of having to be the head of state. Poor snowflake.
Have you seen the mental cases it has attracted? If that is your idea of “normal” I reckon you need to have a word with yourself.
