Of course we were, we were down to the bare bones, Pearson having to play games at centre back, Moncur on the wing when Hedges & Isgrove were injured & Barnes had gone back, only two strikers available after Ugbo went back & one of them was an unfit Thiam. We had Mottley - Henry & Brown who struggled to get a game at Chesterfield on the bench. With McBurnie & Moore & the less injuries we had under Morais we should’ve been safe. It’s easy to forget now because it was months ago but Isgrove, Gardner, Hedges, Cavare & Pinnock were barely available in the first half of the season, Yiadom missed the first 2 months of the season, we were in a much better position squad wise post-January
If we were in a much better position then you have to ask yourself why two head coaches failed to win more than roughly 1 in 10 with the post January squad
oh absolutely. My first signings would be players like McArdle, George Williams, Ariyibi & Gary Roberts.
if you keep looking for negatives youll find them, all day long and that seems all you want to do. What they also said was that they wanted to improve revenue streams so more money would become available to budget. These guys have done well in life and in business. Their record an Nice is one of success, but they didnt do it in 5 months. If you want instant success, Barnsley isnt the club for you. I can tell you that from approaching 40 years of supporting them, and many other clubs also fall into the same category. I would much rather we did things slowly but surely than just chuck money at it like the Wigans of this world. Besides, where has it got them? Yo yo club with gates of 9k. Thats not what I aspire to.
Well the revenue streams will drastically fall in League One. And why are we in League One? Because they did not invest. I hope they are happy with losing 6 million in TV money, after all it is much better than spending 2-3 million on a decent championship player that would have ensured survival!
We are in league one as Morais was tactically inept, swapping and changing players etc. It would be nice if we could go out and spend 2-3 mil on a player like other teams do, but what about the FFP rules? I know other clubs have got away with it or got massive fines that they can absorb but I don't think our owners would want that. Plus I can't help think that the Football League would through everything possible at a so called "smaller" unfashionable club like us, Coventry, Plymouth if we broke the rules.
We loaned a premier league player that scored in almost every game, but that didn't ensure survival. Do you honestly believe that breaking our transfer record and wage structure for 1 player would have kept us up? Sunderland had a team on massive wages and still went straight down. The revenue streams aren't limited to paying fans and TV money, and the current owners tenure isn't all about the last 5 months or the forthcoming season either.
Once again........how many decent Championship players worth 2 to 3 million would have come to us in January????????
A decent CB instead of Matt Mills would have for sure kept us up. We threw the game at Elland Road because he selected Matt Mills.
Ah, we're throwing games now as well eh? Wonder how much we paid Moore to miss an open goal in that game.
well if he'd have started with Moore we might have been able to construct some sort of attacking play for 75 minutes!
So given that virtually every club in the league was paying much higher wages than us anyway you think they'd have swapped league security to come here. Of course we could have offered them money so far above our wage structure it would have blown the whole thing apart. But the evidence suggests that was unlikely to happen. I think you live in the same fantasy world as Donnytyke.
One head coach, Morais has the team post-January after we’d strengthened. We lost all organisation, we should’ve got to safety after adding Moore & McBurnie. Unfortunately I don’t think Morais was up to it
