It's very easy to fear the worst. We've just watched all our best players be sold or just walk away, had a season and half of losing football matches and getting relegated with barely a fight. Too early to judge things at this point for me. The next 3 months or so will give us a better idea of their intent, and in 12 months time we could either be carrying them round on our backs ala Vinny Tan, or we could be chucking tennis balls on the pitch during games. No one knows. We need to be patient.
I don't feel any different in terms of my connection and loyalty to the club, the pride and spirit than I felt last tear, year before etc remains. I cant put my finger on anything tangible that has been taken away that connects me to the club. There may have been a little more interaction with Mansford, something which a lot criticized or didn't like. In fact im looking forward to the new owners modernizing and bringing the new age to our club, something I think has been lacking. No-one local had anything to offer to take ownership over so we should embrace the new owners and their ideas. If we don't like being 'modernized; whatever that brings, then we have to accept where the club will end up long term. By the modernize doesn't mean destroying our values, passion, support and tradition. It also doesn't mean we cant buy a player because we have an ad in times square. I think some are confused by that.
It was Patrick, a life long Barnsley fan, that put all those players up for sale. The new owners have got only one decision wrong so far - and that was Morais. It’s been a poor start - but one that can be fully understood when considering the background of Morais. The new owners need to be better informed so it doesn’t happen again - which means better wider links to people in football. As far as I’m concerned the new ownership is the best and most exciting thing that has ever happened to Barnsley Football Club in my lifetime. I’m sure most fans feel the same. And that includes the promotion to the Premiership and the following season in the Premiership. The era of three steps forward followed by the inevitable three steps backwards because we just couldn’t afford it is hopefully over.
