OK, I know it would be some sell by the club. But look at the adulation this lad has rightly enjoyed since February. Would he get that elsewhere, at a supposed "bigger" club? Is money really an issue? 30 goals in League One would probably enough to cement his Scotland place. More so than in and out of the side at Leeds or Swansea. He'd be promoted with us next season and a Championship playoff contender with us the season after. If we pulled Oli's signing off we might then have an outside chance of retaining Yiadom and capturing Gardner on permanent. McBurnie and Yiadom would make all the difference to our prospects, and are we really talking about that much money? Well, I can dream.
I would say, regardless of what division we’re in, we have pretty much zero chance of signing McBurnie on a permanent transfer. Which is a shame because I have really taken to Oli in his time here (which I know is a mistake being a Barnsley fan and especially with loan players).
Test of new owners then. After all, they could afford to buy Leeds and close them down for a laugh, never mind Leeds offering McBurnie a better deal than us.
A full season surrounded by the tripe in our team and he would have passed 20 plus goals this season. If we stay up, sign him and give him a better quality of team mate he could hit 30 at this level. He's got the goals in him to get a club to the premiership. It depends on how much our board want top flight football. At league one level where he's not going to play to he could get 35-40 goals in a season.
McBurnie is a premier league player all day long (if Glen Murray at 34 can be getting 10-15 goals) don't think it's all about money with him, he is very passionate and ambitious, was premier league 2 player of season last year, when he's played for Swansea last year he's not looked out of his depth at all, I would think a Huddersfield, Swansea, Bournemouth position club will come in for him
I don’t see how that’s relevant at all in this given situation. The collective individual wealth of our owners has really gone to people’s heads.
Well with all due respect Marlon, I really don't think it has. It simply means that there are more possibilities open to this group of owners than our previous one. Whether they choose to take advantage of that is another matter.
We aren't expecting the new owners to go all Wolves and spend ten and fifteen million on players. We would like to think we could outbid Leeds if it looks like they would get Oli permanently.
I’m not Marlon, but... the thread firstly romanticises the idea of McBurnie signing for us in League 1 and then goes on to discuss our owners being of superior wealth to Premier League clubs. First, we haven’t yet retained nor surrendered our Championship status but even when all’s said and done I don’t think we’ve got a cat in hell’s chance of signing him on a permanent basis irrespective of where we end up. Second, to think we can suddenly outbid a Premier League club because on paper our owner’s have more brass is incredible. Notwithstanding the above, McBurnie is available on a free transfer. Presumably Swansea have or will offer a new deal so any fee will be either negotiated through prior agreement or determined by the tribunal. That fee given the last few months and his Premier League, JPT appearances wouldn’t be insignificant. There’s then the weekly wage and incentives; if he’s looking for first XI football and £20k per week then I doubt we’ll match it let alone go wild and offer £40k per week to stave off the opposition yet that’s what Sam Gallagher (give or take a grand) is currently on at Birmingham. I imagine the same discussions were had on the Bristol forum last year when Tammy Abraham bagged a hat full for them yet this season he’s a new contract heavier and on loan at Swansea. McBurnie isn’t coming back next season whether it be on a permanent deal or otherwise, we just need to appreciate what we had and get over it.
a very nice thought, but I simply do not see McBurnie coming to us . He will be off to a premier club or even Rangers ... he will want to further his Scottish international career. He has done it no harm whilst with us 9 goals ... but if he could do it with a Prem club or Rangers then he could become a Scottish International on a regular basis. I also do not think we could match his wage demands too
He is the most prolific u21 player in the championship averaging a goal every 155 minutes, the first half of the year he played in Premier league 2 and avergaed a goal every 63 minutes, I'm pretty sure there will have been a lot of scouts from top flight clubs watching him with us
It’s been great to have him at club and watch him play for us , hoping he scores Sunday and keeps us up now
Unless they are Man City, Arsenal, QPR or Wolves they will be poorer clubs than us, going by the wealth of our owners (which admittedly isn't the same thing).
^^ I agree with this - or he might stay at Swansea if he is guaranteed to start. Either way, I don’t think it’s all about money - he’ll get a decent whack wherever he goes, it’s about getting the game time now. Especially since he has tasted regular football with us.
