Sorry if already posted, but I thought it kind of summed up our season. Stadium PA announces 'we'll now take a moment to pay tribute to those reds fans who've sadly passed away this season........their names will appear on the scoreboard, so please show your appreciation'. The sad music starts and the first name appears in the screen, crowd start applauding, even though it's actually the match sponsor, then the names and pictures of the kids who are mascots appear. Applause continues, as does the sad music. Made me laugh, at least. Doesn't take much....
I noticed that too, but eventually the names did appear. I loved how Patrick Cryne appeared right at the end, and how the applause got louder and louder as he looked down from the scoreboard on us. Just shows how popular he was. He would have been proud today, great performance lads. Once we got the first 5 minutes out of the way.
Thought they could have left Patrick's pic up there a bit longer - it went after just a couple of seconds.
The huge majority of fans fully appreciate what PC did for us, and how much this club meant to him. Even to the very end his thoughts were about leaving us in the best position he thought we could be - I’m not sure my football club would be my priority then. I’ve not met one fan in person who doesn’t respect him. Even those who don’t agree with every decision he made (who does?) understand what a great man he was for us. There’s a few on this board who don’t. But then it’s very quick to understand what kind of person they are, so glad they tend to be vociferous only when behind computer screens.
You too! I was bricking it before the game, as you probably noticed. Then I remembered I was supposed to BELIEVE. Great day today, whatever happens next week!
That's why I'm proud to put that memorial flag out before every home game. It's now in my garden drying out, it's bloody heavy when wet. RIP Patrick Cryne.
I was thinking ‘this is sad, so many young reds dying’ before realising they were mascots. I think it was on to the 3rd kid by the time I realised
A couple of the names which appeared were people who have been dead for 5+ years. Fans I knew from the Wath & West Melton area.
